Item jumping

Postby SpiritBreaker » Thu Aug 06, 2015 11:44 pm

So, back in the day (not THAT long ago actually) I did some research on tricks and glitches in WC3, as some of them were useful for standard wc3 (melee).

Here's the link if you're interested.

Since I'm an Orc player, one of the things I researched was the Blademaster's Wind Walk. I had seen pros break units out of surrounds using it, and I saw a pro item jump into a blocked Night Elf base in a tournament.

So I wanted to find out exactly how it worked and I concluded that it can only be performed on what I call 1x1 corner blocks. That's where the buildings are diagonally one tile apart. If they are not apart by at least 1 tile on both the X and Y-Axis, then they are either touching at the corners, or are apart by 1 tile on one axis and 0 tiles on the other. And those, from my experiments, cannot be jumped.

Recently however, someone told me that it can also be done on other blocks. Also, I tried to item jump here (see below) but failed. And that looks like a 1x1 corner block. I even tried dropping two items to no avail.

Replay is attached if you want to see how I tried to item jump it. It was past 4:00, maybe around 4:30. (As in the screenshot the replay timer is at 5:30).

Could an expert once and for all clear up the mystery that is item jumping?

And before you talk about Burn's tutorial, yes I watched the video. And the highlights video about Pirate being blocked from seed. And I read Lynx-'s guide which also mentioned item jumping.

You can jump more than just 1x1 corners. We've jumped into the bottom of euro before (from behind the tree line with like 100 chims on the ground).

its really just that items have collision with ww units so you can bounce yourself.
If you watch this game :: http://storage.entgaming.net/replay/vie ... 266708.w3g you can see me jump out dryad hunter around the 40min mark. Bouncing due to collision is just a generic wc3 glitch. Its not really any different than bouncing around via buildings except that items are much smaller than buildings.

What information do you want? You should be able to jump those draenei shelters if that was your question. Just walk as close as possible to it between the two and drop item on the bottom left hitbox area of your titan. There is more item jumps you can do than though, base item jump is in particular nice. video of base item jump here: https://vimeo.com/135512685

Thanks for the replay @Cambrioleur I'll watch it later. And yea that was pretty cool @Lynx- .

I know that WW, lumber/gold collecting units and items share hitboxes.

I must be doing something wrong then cos I failed to jump that.

What's your technique to get as close to the two walls as possible? I tried approximately clicking but the titan kept trying to get to the other side. I tried issuing move to one wall then the other multiple times, but that didn't work out, as the jump failed.

So what am I doing wrong?

If you want to move as close between the two shelters as possible, here is how I usually do it (Sometimes you have to change because of slopes)

For this particular item jump (WITH PICTURES!):
Spoiler!
Top left shelter is shelter one
Bot right shleter is shelter two

1) Use move command to shelter one
2) Use move command(or right click) to the centre of where you think you are supposed to be so both selection circles of the shelters overlap with yours.
2.1) The centre is aligned with the right side of shelter one, and the top side of shelter two. (you can spam click this) [ img ]
3)Move command back to shelter one to make titan face the shelter.
Image
4) Drop item in the centre of the red target: [ img ]
5) Pick-up the item to jump over without breaking WW.
5.1) Alternatively, you can also use a skill then press (S) to cancel the skill to pop over, but it will break WW. This is used mainly for jumping into bases.

Further notes and explanations:

- You only have to overlap selection circles and be touching the other one to jump over, but you'll have to be more precise with the item drop placement.
- The reason why you have to go through all this work is because the two shelters are on a slope, shelter one is on higher ground than the other.
- Basically, you have to prevent your unit from turning clockwise (towards shelter two), or the titan will bug out and pathing will make you move, which is why the third step is recommended so that you will turn anti-clockwise.

In some special cases you can walk straight through between 2 walls where you shouldn't be able to walk through too.

Ye, I once walked straight up a cliff once and got a quad kill with just melee attacks. Will post video of it soon.
