Defenders Island Defense guide
Posted: Sun Feb 18, 2018 1:16 pm
I am making this guide to help myself and anyone who read; get a better grasp on what to look and to do as builder or support.
First step: Camera
In the beginning, camera is usually the first thing people will change.
you look at this base camera picture and it's hard to view around and watch your builder.
However, when you type -camera (###) like -camera 200 as an example
now, you can see more around compared to the base camera and allows you to watch incoming titan walking to nuke or wind of the wind you.
sidenote: if you place L at the end like -camera 200 L this feature will lock the camera distance in place in case you mousewheeled or paged up or down. this will always maintain a 200% viewing distance
Second step: Defenders
Now, there is a lot of choices for Defenders and they split into two sections. Basers & Supports
This brings us to the question what do you mean basers and what do you mean by supports?
Broad defining of a Defender
A baser is anyone that can efficiently build towers and deal enough damage per second that can push off a siege from a titan
List of true basers:
Draenei
Dryad
Goblin
Gnoll
Makrura
Murloc
Ogre
Pirate
Radioactive
Troll
List of pseudo-basers:
Faerie dragon
Morphling
Nature
Tauren
this split in the list is because these particular defenders can base or support other bases
On the hand, a support can't base alone and in later stages of the game, are the only ones qualified to rewall or kill wards that titan places in a siege
List of true supports:
Demonologist
Magnataur
Satyr
Sidenote: Anyone can become a support if they build hitpoints from their individual research center or have the ability to avoid dying while rewalling or hunting miniature titans
Choosing the Defender that suits you
Each defender has a unique play-style and escape. when you are beginning off learning Island defense or coming back after a long break. I would suggest to random and familiarize with what each defender does what. Because there may have been a new view on builder and you will like that particular builder and start choosing that one more often.
Lets go down the list of unique perks and traits and where their strongest bases are located.
starting with the builder basic bases, not including ultimate towers
Big foreword, the cost of regular bases is here as general guide, when you are thinking. should i base or should i base not?
I have seen some crazy folks try to base with 10k wood or 20k wood trying for all mega towers and walls and it just doesn't work.
Draenei unique:
versatile builder with one of the strongest late game towers, or one of the more powerful early game armies
Tower with Void Portal: 40-40 damage with 800 range passive: costs 25 mana, adds 15 extra damage to attack and counts as area of effect
Tower with Mana Spire: 50-50 damage with 900 range passive costs 15 mana*, adds 15 extra damage to attack and counts as area of effect
Wall: 100 hit points 15 armor with the effectively 540+ extra hp from walls base mana pool passive: mana shield reduces all damage by 80% and damage negated, converts to draining mana.
Titan hunter: 925 hitpoints, 10 fortified armor 125-125 damage with melee range
Combat unit: 700 hitpoints, 55-55 damage with melee range
Workers: costs 6 each, five pools are needed for 150 food cap, collects 2 wood per wood cut, holds 10 wood max to return to the shelter.
Summoner unit: 150 hp, Can build lumber bases, pools and towers without your main builder being physically there.
Draenei's escapes: Portal teleport to a random void portal on the map. you are complete invulnerable while channeling the teleport. Use this ability to greed for extra gold off the mound, knowing you cant die if you are quick enough.
Base cost analysis of Draenei:
total cost of Battle Draenei: 500 wood for lumbering upgrades, 10 gold and 750 wood for battle constructs upgrade, 300 wood for summoner, 400 wood for hunter, 8100 wood for 18 battle constructs
all of this adds up to 10050 wood costs and this kills minis easily and titans under level 5
Total base cost for Void Portal only: 5500 wood for 15 walls+hp upgrades, 14000 wood for 35 super towers, 150 wood for void portal, 10 gold and 1500 wood for arcane gems upgrade, 1000 wood for lumbering upgrades
all of this adds up to 10 gold and 22150 wood
total base cost for Mana spire unlock: 30 gold and 8500 wood for 15 walls+hp upgrades, 44100 wood for 49 mega towers, 150 for void portal, 10 and 1500 wood for arcane gems upgrade, 1000 wood for crystal focusing upgrade, 45 gold and 1250 wood for mana spire 1000 wood for lumbering upgrade
all of this adds up to 85 gold and 57500 wood

Dryad Unique:
takes typically 3000 wood to fully start an early base
Tower with Ancient Willow built: costs 2 food, base damage 50-50 with 750 range, requires 7 tiers of individual upgrades
Tower with Ancient of Battle built: costs 2 food, base damage 85-85 with 850 range. requires 10 tiers of individual upgrades
towers can be grow with time or bought instantly for wood
Wall: 650 hit point and 15 armor with a 15-15 damage attack at melee range that slows movement-speed and attack-speed by 10%
Titan hunter: 635 hitpoint base 85-85 attack 550 attack range
one of two titan hunter to fit in between 1x1 spaces between walls
Workers: costs 10 food each, takes exactly 6 fruits to make 150 food, gathers 2 wood per cut, holds 10 wood max to return to shelter
Dryad's escapes: Panic increases your movement speed near cap speed, allowing you to move around quickly for 8 seconds and Entangling Roots hurls a projectile that slows a titan by 75% for 5 seconds. (can also be used to damage the titan only use if he is really really low)
Base cost analysis of Dyrad:
Tower cost: this is the only defender that does this
Time minimum with no gold or spending wood (means no ancient of battle built): each tower gets 1 mana per 4 seconds. it would take roughly 37.4-46.6 minutes to grow tier 7's (due to growth times from night and day)
Wood cost minimum with no gold: each tier 7 tower costs 700 wood total without growing
in games with an pre-3 minute death, which happens often. you need to aim for 5 gold
5 gold and 1500 lumber for Natures grace aura for her hunter to speed the growth of her towers by .5 mana per second
Time minimum with 5 gold or spending wood: each tower gets 3 mana per 4 seconds. it would take 15.5-24.1 minutes to grow tier 7's
Time minimum with 60 gold: (with fertilizer upgrade from ancient of battle and upgraded mana aura): each tower gets 14 mana per 4 seconds. it would take roughly 3.33 minutes to gain tier 7's and 5.97 minutes to gain tier 10's towers
Fertilizer upgrade gives off 8 mana per 4 second instead of 1 per 4 seconds. (huge difference)
Wood cost with 60 gold: each tier 10 costs 1375 wood total without growing
Total cost for base with only Ancient Willow: (earlier-mid game) 4100 wood for 15 walls+upgrades, 750 to 21000 wood for 30 tier 7 towers, 1000 for lumbering upgrades, 400 wood for hunter, 150 wood for ancient willow, (hopefully) 5 gold and 1500 wood for feral growth aura
this adds up to 5 gold and (undisturbed) 7900 wood. or 5 gold and 28150 wood for a solid research center only base
Total cost for base with Ancient of battle: (mid-late game) 5600 wood for 15 walls+upgrades, 1125 to 61875 wood for 45 towers (tier 10) towers, 1000 for lumbering upgrades, 400 wood for hunter 150 wood for ancient willow, 15 gold and 3250 wood for feral growth auras, 1500 wood for fertilizer, 45 gold and 2500 wood for ancient of battle, 1000 wood for hunter hit point upgrade
All of this adds up to 60 gold and (undisturbed) 16525 wood for a solid base or 60 gold and 41k+ wood including buying tower tiers to save time.

Dryad's tips and tricks
Goblin Unique:
Early game baser, can spend 1500 wood for upgrade on his factories that give 5 more damage and increases autoattacks to 1000 range.
This will kill any titan under level 4
Tower with Laboratory: costs 1 food, 45-45 damage with 700 range
Tower with Arkus Mechanicus: costs 1 food, 55-55 with 900 range
Each tower costs 1 gold to place (so a goblin without gold is semi-useless)
Wall: 650 hitpoints and 20 armor with a passive to reduce 250+ damage to 50 damage on the wall
Titan hunter: Flying, nearly impossible to be nuked to death. starts with 510hp, 80-80 damage with 600 range
Workers: cost 40 food each, eight factories to produce 120 food. gathers 10 wood. holds 10 wood max to return to shelter. fun fact:
lumbering upgrades give 5% more each upgrade and pays off later
Goblin's escapes: Panic increases your movement speed near cap speed, allowing you to move around quickly for 10 seconds and mechanical trap that scouts for you and if triggered by enemies, stuns for 3 seconds. (you can use this trap during a siege to trap a titan since its one of the longest single stuns in the game)
Base cost analysis of Goblin:
Ideally, Goblins want at least 30 gold for towers so they can keep 3 workers going and maintain the highest tower count without sacrificing lumber speed
Total cost for base with only enhanced factories: 2700 wood for 9 upped walls+upgrades, 80 wood for 16 factories, 1500 for factory upgrade, 400 wood for hunter, 150 wood for laboratory

Tower with Hut: costs 1 food, 35-35 damage with 700 range. passive: poisoned weapons that deals 3 damage per second and slows 5% attack speed and 20% movement speed of an enemy target (its pain for titans to run away when they are constantly slowed)
Tower with Warden's Sanctuary and upgrade: costs 1 food, 50-50 damage with 900 range. passive: poisoned weapons that deals 5 damage per second and slows 10% attack speed and 25% movement speed of an enemy target. (this will usually end games cause a titan will take too much damage from towers and poison slows stack)
Wall: 800 hitpoints and 25 armor (best wall in the game)
Titan hunter: 885 hitpoints and 100-100 damage with 700 range upgrades into 1285 hitpoints and 120-120 attack with 900 range that autoattacks slows

Third step: Lumber bases
Advanced Lumber bases: full denial
Unique Lumber bases
Fourth step: Gathering gold and keeping yourself safe
Fifth step: What to do during a siege?
Sixth step: What are Ultimate towers?
Fun bases for duo and curious:
To be continued...

Total cost for base with only enhanced factories: 2700 wood for 9 upped walls+upgrades, 80 wood for 16 factories, 1500 for factory upgrade, 400 wood for hunter, 150 wood for laboratory
all of this adds up to 4830 wood. this factory bases kills titans level 4 and below
Total cost for base with only Laboratory: this includes 4100 wood for 15 upped walls+upgrades, 11550 wood for 30 super towers, 150 for laboratory, 400 for hunter, 1000 wood for lumbering upgrades
All of this adds up 30 gold and 17200 wood for research center only base
Total cost for base with Arkus Mechanicus unlocked: 7100 wood for 15 advanced walls+upgrades, 30 gold and 26550 wood for 30 mega towers, 150 for laboratory, 45 gold and 1250 wood for Arkus Mechanicus 400 for hunter, 1000 wood for lumbering upgrades, 1500 for attack-speed buff towers, 1000 wood for hunter hitpoint upgrades
All of this adds up 75 gold and 38950 wood for solid late game base. this does die hard to titans that have a lot of hp regeneration and damage

Strongest baser. early, mid, late game. every titan fears this particular baser if they succeed basing and living pass gold penalty
Workers: costs 6 food each, six fruits are required for 150 food, gathers 2 wood per wood cut, holds max of 10 wood to return to shelter
Gnoll's escapes: Sentry ward that increases movement speed for living units and doubles up as sentry ward as an upgrade, and Teleportation that has .5 second delay but instantly teleports you to any structure on the map. so you may have 45 second to 2 minute head start on making a base against a titan
