less bad at discussing pls

1) ENT is a shit platform for discussing ID because there is no voting, sorting or good way to structure and format posts.
2) Everyone rants in their posts creating huge ass walls of text that nobody bothers to read.

Solution:

1) Move ID discussion elsewhere, Reddit is best unless someone has a better suggestion
2) Read your posts before you post it and remove all unnecessary stuff, be short and concise so people easily understands your post. Highlight main points.

True, I've been trying to get better at this. For me, I love reading numbered lists and bullet points, although I personally just stick to short paragraphs for each point I make.

What I hate the most is people arguing just for the sake of arguing. If you disagree with something, give a 3-4 line post mentioning you disagree and why. List your points and be done with it. Don't try to nitpick every little thing in a comment to try and break it apart and take it out of context in order to keep the argument going.

It just de-rails the topic, when you can better spend the time with suggestions, instead of explaining why the suggestion is bad. Unless you try to remove wall-walking, then all hell will break loose. ^^

I would actually go for The Hive Workshop, which is the biggest Warcraft online community there is. We might even catch a few new players for Island Defense, since other members would see the topics as well.

I have wondered why Island Defense is not on Hive? Something with the creator or why? I have no idea.

We had id.org, then we moved to bg.net, then now ent.

Never tried Hive. What problems would Hive solve?

Well. You can make polls there and for flaming/messing up in threads actually leads to a punishment, meaning the threads could actually stay clean and the way intended.

Also, I feel Hive and its functions are more user friendly. Discussing via live chat is not bad either. Also hive can get ID to the public a lot better than some fansite that is actually just filled up with couple of fanatics fighting about their opinions (sorry). And like I already said, there is a lot of Warcraft players/users on Hive and thus is more appropriate channel than reddit.

Lets imagine a situation where a new player wants to know more about Island Defense, and he sees a message in the quest log:
"Go see more information on Reddit!"
or
"Go check out Island Defense's forums on the biggest Warcraft community HiveWorkshop.com!"

I don't know I just feel Hive is more appropriate channel.

As far as I know hive suffers from the same problems that ENT does. Indeed Hive might bring more players, so it's more suitable than ENT but I still think Reddit is superior due to voting, sorting and formatting. Reddit's UI is also has a more appealing look to the newcomer.

Now, I can't care less what platform is chosen except that you need to be able to upvote/downvote posts.

r/islanddefense is already set-up, all there needs is agreement from the ID community to migrate there and change this link

to link to this https://www.reddit.com/r/islanddefense .

Another positive thing with changing platforms is that you could be anonymous and thus removing personal biases.

I dont know which problems you are talking about exactly. Hive just recently updated its entire website and thus it is still under some quickfixes and stuff. Upvoting or downvoting messages cannot be done so far, but the reputation is even better in my opinion. And of course, if we'd have Island Defense forum the mods could bring up and delete messages.

Oh maybe one voting is the only thing that cannot be done post-specifically, but there are polls in Hive. And posts can be moved.

You still haven't answered my question: "What problems would Hive solve?"

ENT can already move/delete/lock topics. Discussions are a lot cleaner these days because we are all scared of our posts being removed or topics being locked. You haven't been here when there was real drama. Tbh, Haunt was the one who fucked the last discussion up.

ENT can already made polls. We made a successful poll which decided on the base far top of the map. We made a successful poll which stopped idiots from removing wall walking.

That being said, I'd love if everyone moved to reddit. The only problem I can see is that a lot of the moderators on /r/id is that I don't know who they are because they are dota2id devs.

@Burn I agree with most of your post tbh.

Don't do stuff like the wall walking comment because you know it incites me to post back but all I'm going to say is it will never be removed on Wc3 due to player base.

The only reason I'm not a fan of moving to reddit is because I feel like it would split the community and make it even smaller. Not many people post and some people would just never switch to reddit.

The only thing that solves discussions on ENT are polls. None of this text bullshit, it never goes anywhere. Neco doesn't listen to anyone but polls.

Reddit is 24/7 polls.

I have a question about reddit though, how is vote manipulation handled on reddit? Do multiple votes on the same IP get flagged? Do subreddit moderators even have access to username IPs?

Then there's reddit etiquette. People seem to want to be able to upvote and downvote posts but downvote is only used for if the comment is offtopic or troll/flame. We would just end up with people downvoting because they don't like a comment etc and then everyone would get banned lol.

You don't get banned for not following reddit etiquette. Down-voting for not agreeing with a comment is the norm now.

I don't know. Why is the poll thing such a huge thing? You can easily create polls online, not tied to any website and spam them how much you want. About up/downvoting posts... meh.. I personally don't want to be judge some one because his post was up/downvoted. And if it is pure flaming it should be removed in the first place.

Is this poll good enough?
