Why do less people play WC3 these days?

Yea, there was rumor about d3, nothing done... Still, the hope came up and D3 appear. STILL. D3 is RPG or MMO (you have a hero, buy stuff on him, upgrade it etc). Wc3 is third person playing, like a command and conquer. Build unit, upgrade them, war etc. People prefer much the my hero, my stuff, my look, myskill. Then my army that getting reset every single game. There's no track, even dota2. You have a profile, but every game you have to statr back at level 1... There's the reason : d3 out wc4 never will.

Well first of all, i think the word you are looking for to describe WC3 is real time strategy or RTS. Starcraft is a RTS like WC3 and it was still popular. Like D3, starcraft took 12 years between each release, not including expansion packs.

Now if we took that perspective into War Craft, the expected release date would be 2015. However, as we all know, that date is very unlikely. There will be no WC4 in 2015 but it might be there by 2020.

Because this game is almost 15 years old. This was an amazing game, but people move on to play others. It just so happens that the style of gaming (PC gaming specifically) changes. PC gaming is dying in general. Just compare the amount of players/success Starcraft II or Diablo III has to when Warcraft III or WoW came out. The latter of these made a huge impact while the first were maybe OK the first 4 months then afterwards died.

I was a hardcore raider in WoW from vanilla to cataclysm. I cleared throne of four winds, blackwing descent, baradin hold, and bastion of twilight in Cata. WoW died in wrath of the lich king when you could kill Arthas while literally half asleep. Warcraft 3 was always great, you never had to paid anything a month and guilds didn't exist. Sounds like a win-win to me.
