Yeah but if this screenshot is triggered by a tool, u could autoturn off mh before the tool creates the screenshot/tells wc3 to screenshot. Unless you protect the tool itself to manipulation, which is rly hard, is it supereasy to insert a action prior to this event. While pausing the game from extern is much hard to detect and react to.
U would need to either detect the network package sending the pause signal, then turn off mh before wc3 processes the pause signal.
(i'm assuming u cannot turn mh off while pause/or it affects wc3 rendering after unpause only, is that right? )
So if anything only a combination of both techniques would make it really hard to mh. And even then manipulation could still be possible if you have the right skills.

I don't see how anyone can maphack with the screenshot testings .. .. I used it for a about a week and I got caught, so how will anyone use it for years without getting caught? I don't get itHBC didn't get ANY Screenshot tests ever in 3 years ????
Perhaps there is a possibility that people are just smarter than you.
The people who got caught in this league MHing weren't even trying to cover their tracks. They were just praying they wouldn't get SS tested. Anyone with the tiniest bit of computer knowledge will tell you the current system has almost no chance of catching someone who knows what they're doing. I'm certain a lot more people than we think are MHing, there's just no way to prove it.
I like the idea of implementing a tool that makes MH easier to detect. Would make players a lot more comfortable knowing they aren't being cheated. Only issue is I don't see a way to make something like this work without forcing all players to run an application client-side, which I'm sure many people wouldn't be too keen on doing.

The point you miss, is, it you turn off the MH let's say at wave 13, you can see more units in the fog than everyone else can. This means, you've had a maphack to show the units under the fog.
How did HBC get caught by the way? this way, or?

So how did HBC get detected?
And how would you hide the fact, that you see units in the fog that nobody else can see? If you first discover it, then you can never un-see it, and a screenshot from the folder will show this if you compare it to other people. Let's say at wave 15, then you suddenly can see more units than everyone else can.

Re: Stopping MH
Anyone who is smart and actively works towards avoiding detection will never get caught by a screenshot test. HBC wasn't smart. I can think of several ways off the top of my head that someone could circumvent the SS test procedure. I'm not going to post them here because I don't want to give maphackers (like you) and ideas. I will say that in general the approach consisting of "please take a picture of your screen and we'll just trust that it's legitimate and not tampered with" isn't very secure.

Well, considering you know nothing about it, yet, dont worry.skibbel wrote:I have often sensible information often while playin wc3 in window mode. Why should i trust a tool developed by a "random" person? Why would u think i couldnt't manipulate this tool?
Since im developer, it would actually be much easier for me to manipulate this tool to turn off mh before screenshot, then to manipulate a screenshot in a graphic tool, which i have no clue about.
This tool would just provide a false sense of protection, which doesn't exit.
Besides, I wouldnt call myself random :| and any tool which creates a bigger hurdle is better than none at all. No one said it is 100% save, nothing is.

Thats exactly what i was thinking about. Even if you add this programm, there will be always a way to mh without any1 noticing it...

Well maybe just edit the ss since mods gives u like 10min without a ban?

All in all i think there is no way to stop pple using mh since its a issue by wc3, not by ltd. 3rd person programms wont help here
