LIHL is dying - How do we rescue? (DISCUSSION)

Postby Drahque » Tue Nov 12, 2013 6:39 pm

So lately there have been a drop in activity, more unhappy players and way more time spend on forum drama and whine about bans, than actually in the league. How do we turn this around? Do we need to rollback the rules, stop unvouch, remove Elo or how do we change the current attitude? Please share your opinion!

    Amount of games:
    3/11 - 34 games
    4/11 - 30 games
    5/11 - 25 games
    6/11 - 24 games
    7/11 - 26 games (4 unvouches)
    8/11 - 17 games (BAM?)
    9/11 - 0 games (tournament)
    10/11 - 12 games (3 unvouches)
    11/11 - 10 games
    12/11 - 14 games (2 unvouches + 4 revouches)
    13/11 - 9 games (1 revouch)
    14/11 - 29 games (1 revouch)
    15/11 - XY games (3 revouches)

    Amount of people vouched:
    31/10 - 82 vouched players.
    01/11 - 48 vouched players.
    06/11 - 46 vouched players.
    07/11 - 42 vouched players.
    10/11 - 39 vouched players.
    12/11 - 41 vouched players.
    13/11 - 42 vouched players.
    14/11 - 43 vouched players.
    15/11 - 47 vouched players.

Conclusion: The unvouches might have been the core problem of the activity on top of the tournament. But it doesn't explain why nobody is playing today.

Wouldn't have expected a less dramatic headline from you Drahque :)

There are currently 5 shortly unvouched players - 27 were unvouched because of inactivity and 7 unvouched 2-4 weeks because of the auto unvouch system.
That might give some understanding to some people who are complaining about too many new players joining the league.
When big numbers leaves we are forced to recruit new players to keep the league running.

Personally my interest in LTD have topped - I need to play other games as well so it doesn't get too boring.
It's been years since the last update and the games are pretty much the same.. I guess that's why some want to change modes more than others.

When that is said I think that most of the new players are doing great - in season 2 half of top10 were new players.

I have seen plenty of days with 10-15 games last season, no difference with now. In fact, last season started off almost the same as this season: lot of activity first 3-4 days, then lower activity for a few weeks to go back to a peak in october. If this season follows the same curve there is no problem at all.

But I do agree some unvouches are the main cause of a lower amount of games than could have been.
You don't stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing.

Let me say this plain and simple. Lihl is boring. People chose to create 543543543 additional rules and guidelines of how and how not to play, making the game so predictable and repeatable that it ends boring.

I went on a 4vs4 pub game past 32 few minutes ago, double building, cross building, antistuck to catch leaks and everything inside and it was by far the game I've enjoyed the most the past month.

In recent discussions I found out that I am not the only one who got bored of it, and I am also not the only one who got disappointed by some vouched players. We accepted some people as trials and even though their knowledge of the game was and still is terrible we allowed them to pass their trial for no reason, just so we have one more person to fail. At least with everything allowed you could actually carry those players to victory with double and antistuck, now you just see them fail their lanes costing you the game.

The map version is the same for so long and people prefer to not allow people to create new meta, rather just ban it so we stick to the plain old boring everyone for himself. First time I see a team game , where teamwork is banned.

I don't agree with feor's statement. I like the strait play. I also enjoy playing pros why I help get LIHL started and supported it till I got a life crisis.

I couldn't agree more with feor. The LIHL games are much less challenging compared to pub games. Also ways less entertaining.

It's embarrassingly true, because in public you have to carry a team of 2-3 newbies to victory, which can be a very tough fight guiding people - especially if the some of them doesn't speak English. ;p'

That's what I feel like playing with the bottom players in the league sometimes.

Without bot players, there is no top. And after un-vouching over half the league, we can now sit 5-8 hours in the channel before one single 2v2 game starts. So, you should really appreciate every player, otherwise soon there will be 1 or 2 games per month. Also don't forget people have different play styles, just because a person like to take risks doesn't mean he's bad. For example Sx.Chuck and BA_Fail both overbuild for their team, and those make less mistakes - does that make them a better players? Some would say yes, and others no - but in my mind you don't learn the income mechanics properly. I learn more from a lost game, than I learn from a won game, and so it is in any type of game.

You've totally misunderstood the intention of my statement. It was meant to be purely for ironic purposes.
