DC Pen suggestion/discussion thread

The DC penalty was introduced when the LIHL was first established and has been working fine. Although various suggestions have been made, and with one being implemented (pes), the DC penalty has remained.

Part of the reason of the success of the dc penalty was user discretion in using the function in an appropriate manner for a fair compensation for regular disconnectors.

Recently newer players have been using this function as ammo to threaten/incite other players, obviously against the spirit of the league. Although within the rules this behaviour is clearly toxic and should not be occurring.

So this thread is open to any suggestions which could possibly improve the dc penalty and/or suggestions to eliminate this new trend (may not be directly dc pen related). Small changes/big changes all welcome.

I'll start with one suggestion: automated dc penalties

Pros:
-Players cannot use dcs as ammo
-Fair application whereby common dcers are more heavily punished
-No need to post reports
-No personal issues regarding making reports

Cons
-May prevent games starting between mannered players if one has an unstable internet connection (whereby no reports would be made in the old system). This can hinder games starting especially in off-peak.
-Greater elo fluctuations which are not skill related

Kinda sounds like the PES system except for the ELO being applied instantly. Afaik, users preferred the forum posting despite knowing what might happen to them.

This is completely different to pes. The only partial similarity is that players do not public reports.

Further the main part of this suggestion is different. Automated dc penalties applies punishments in a consistent manner (and not depending on who makes the reports).

No, this shouldn't be automated like pub. For similar reasons stated as Nore.

greatbeyond wrote:No way this works; certain people that only d/c every now and then should not be penalized, since this is a "mannered league". The only times I have ever done d/c pen is to penalize frequent offenders. I will not do it on a 1 time basis; it is more dependent on the attitude of the person, and the amount of d/c that he displays.

Bit of a moot point because infrequent disconnectors will net out ahead.

This will reduce drama, but I think mods are capable of evaluating whether a dc penalty is worthy or not. (Not a time consuming process)

Players who dc a lot more than others due to their geo difference will be heavily penalized. If we do automate, will probably need to make it based on one's dc %.

It's nothing to do with mods evaluation. It's more to do with anonymity and more importantly: consistency. If everyone gets punished then most players with net out even. Infrequent disconnectors net out ahead while frequent disconnectors receive a punishment.
Just a way to punish dcers without any hard feelings between players.

I doubt my opinion matter but I think it would lower the negativity in LIHL it was automatic so people wouldn't take it personal.
