Entry Fee

Next season, I propose to have an entry fee to get into the season. All vouched players can pay $20, with the winner getting 2/3 and the 2nd place finisher getting 1/3. The top 10% of players get 10$ back. I think not only would this improve recruitment from pubs, but also create a good atmosphere in game. With this method, I would advise no swaps allowed.

This would equate to about a $1500 prize for 1st, and a $750 for second. Moderators would each get $50 if they moderate the whole season.

The poll options are edited, please reread it and recast your vote.

Well i would instantly leave this league, it would nothing but destroy it.
People would get rly angry if someone fail, every dc would be reported, no more friendly atmosphere, for the most players who know they will never be 1 or 2 it would just be waste of 20$. Dodges and pp will happen waaayyyy more frequently.
Way to go if u wanna kill this league, i hope this is a joke

We should keep one thing in mind: ENT is no bank, nor are we interested in mass transactions. Paying a few selected ones is fine but 10% of the player base might get too much. Just fyi

This is merely a suggestion. No need to get all emotional...

yea, ik the danger of dodges/pp. also gotta have new rules about swapping. all the top 10% player finishers would have no $20 fee (20$ back), so basically everyone over 1150 - which is more achievable. @art)y yea, can just have the moderators publish rankings and return that money, it's only like 8 more players if 90 people.

it would definitely result in more anger, but man every dc should be reported. ppl should be not failing. if you want more casual ez games, this would be a bad suggestion. but it would definitely increase the desire to be #1. right now, the main desire is just to be in the "!top" and half the games players even mass crabs and say "hope this holds".

the only real issue would be when 2 players like donki and tin get on same team, gonna be rage.

Edit: make no mistake, this would decrease activity. games not gonna be as casual, YOLO mode. would probably have to add many more players from 1200 bracket to make this suggestion result in more activity.

I would say this would never work. And imo, even though 20 $ isn't alot it would be to much prize money and it would become a weird league and ruin the "happy gaming", make an entrance fee of say 2$ and give it all to the winner. That would be interesting cause it wouldn't be to much money but it would be a fairly big prize for the winner I wouldn't mind joining that even though I prolly don't win. But I don't even know if it's legal? I mean some people are under 18 and you would need some documentation from their parents to participate? I don't know if that's how it works im just wondering

yea, 2$ a person still 200$ prize. but almost more trouble than it's worth to pay it. it would definitely take out the "happy gaming" atmosphere, but would put in a whole new level of engagement. it wouldn't be "yea, go ahead and try it".

tbh, 1500$ over 400 games isn't that much. tourney was like 10$ a win, that's a similar amount. just over way more games.

people basically don't want to stop the LIHL we have. if we were to do a 10-day long competition, based on these type of rules, that would be interesting.... but a lot of rage over only 10 days

While LIHL surely is a competitive environment I have always seen fun and a good atmosphere as the most important factors. I doubt such a fee system would do LIHL any good, several people would not join, the activity would drop, the atmosphere would become less fun-oriented.

A fee would be cancerous. One half would stop playing and the other half would become overly competitive.

for real eld me and donki never have problems on the same team, you are the one who literally has to ignore 3-4 people in any given lobby LOL

tbh, I don't like the idea of an entry fee. Not in a permanent league. The way I play lihl atm is more like, I don't have even close to that much time as others for playing, and I also don't wanna invest more time than I am currently, so I am happy to enjoy 1 or 2 games every other evening. However, this is fun and I don't wanna miss this. If I had to pay money to do this, which I will (let's be honest) obviously never win anyhow because certainly there are more skilled players than me and reaching #1 or #2 is completely out of reach for me, I wouldn't enjoy this anymore and would probably just go back to 1200+ bot. The top 10% idea u meantioned above might change this a little bit, but prolly not.
But also the fact that it's too much activity based who wins, I don't really like. Might again just applay to my case ofc.
Ofc, if you wanna create a more superior league, I think this might be a way to make it work, but also activity will drop then, because certainly less people will play in this league than now.

Moreover, imo there are way too many things that we are discussing every now and then because they cannot be handled to everyone's satisfaction, to demand an entrance fee.
#1 is the elo problem. There will be even more discussions about it what is the most fair elo function when money is in the game. And what happens if someone drops? People will rage, because money is in the game.
More of them are the handling of dodging, votebalancing etc pp. I think all the things that are discussed here frequently, will get even more attention and everything suddenly will be super serious and much less fun. If that's what you have in mind, ok ;)

However, since glike opened the thread with the luck-free tournament, I had another idea, which might be good in combination with an entry fee. I will post it in the suggestions thread first.

People will seek any opportunity to gain elo and tensions would be higher knowing money is on the line: reporting every DC, PP, dodging, coercing players into swapping, flaming.. etc... It would not be a nice atmosphere.

A tournament however, as Jamo suggested, would be more suited to a fee. Could even do a round-robin style tournament.

Not sure about this phrase, but I think that's what I am suggesting

Entry fees for tournaments can be done, too.

Going a bit offtopic, but a round robin is similar to how the English premier league works. Every team/player plays against every other team/player X amount of times. So at the end, every player/team has played the same amount of games.

Assuming 16 players, to play every person you'd have 15 games. You can run it twice with 30 games per player. Highest points wins.
