Re: [Troll & Elves] drewisfat : house glitch
How about we don't ban drewisfat. I'm a big fan of that motion, after all he's probably the most active person on TaE.
This is a small, relatively inactive custom game, but if you care enough about it to ban me, try to keep an open mind on what I have to say here. The stated 'rules' are frankly rubbish. Forgive me as I go into the weeds on some of the theory of a game no one cares about except me. But I'm fighting for my life here!! Let's take a look.
1. Do not exploit any glitch including house-glitch.
2. Do not build in an elf's base without approval.
3. Elves may not build/use units (in) a base with more than two builders. If your base is destroyed or a base with more than two builders needs help, you may go there to aid with spells (nothing else) but you must not build or do anything else.
4. Do not exceed the food cap with -gu.
5. When killed and chosen to help the elves, you may not hide in the middle between the Troll's huts in the Medium-Sized winter map.
6. Do not trap the troll two rounds in a row.
7. Blinking/Moving Angel or Elf to a position on the map where the troll is unable to attack due to size or terrain.
When the map is bugged, players may suicide to proceed to the next map.
1. "house glitch" is used in practically every game, often by multiple people. If this was enforced on all abusers the game would probably never fill. By not allowing this you create the issue where people fall slightly behind abusers and they rage, or they just embrace it themselves. I choose the non-rage path. I have no regret for this choice.
More importantly, house glitch is good for gameplay. Yeah I didn't mistype. It's actually a good thing, and not horribly imbalanced. For starters it actually reveals the player's location (all the troll has to do is look around the map for burn marks). So on a big map with a troll who knows that, not a good idea. Outside of that it buffs the elf very early on (In this game very early on the troll has the advantage anyways, as long as he can find people.) It also rewards you to base fast, (i.e. closer to the mid) in a game where otherwise that's a bad idea. It also gives you something to do in the most boring part of the game. And while there isn't tremendous skill, there is some skill in timing / knowing when to stop doing it such that you maximize gold. Certainly more than just building the house. Also some strategy about making sure it's far enough from your wall, such that if troll comes you can still destroy it.
The main reason it's considered game ruining..... is because it's considered game ruining. Some people follow the rules and don't do it, so they get mad at those who break the rules. It's a mess. Just get rid of the rule. It's a bad rule.
3. Bizarre rule. I won't say a bad rule, but it clearly misses the point about multi-basing. The main problem with elves in the same base is that THEY USE SPELLS. Their buildings aren't a big deal. It does save on tower cost, but it cramps the base up more which in most bases is an issue. But yeah, the main issue is spells. Ever troll in a game where everyone starts in a double base? Absolutely miserable if they can spam ensnare, ensnare, divine shield, ensnare, ensnare, divine shield. Or worse, something like a triple base + an angel. Might never be able to attack the wall.
5. Dumb. Why not? Why is it allowed on tiny map? Makes no sense. Maps have that intentionally for the angel. Obviously it's no good as elf, but who cares if angel has an invul spot?
6. Perhaps the most bizarre rule of them all. Two rounds in a row? So it's fine to trap troll every other round, but you need a breather in between? Lol.... Trapping troll is absolutely gameruining. Virtually nothing the troll can do, besides maybe get lucky (mh) see that you're coming and WW you. Which even then, elf can probably survive. And if it's your base you trap him at, just instant game over.
So yeah if I'm banned and y'all don't bother updating the rules, I might just come back and cheaply kill troll every other round. Or even worse, I'll fill this ban request section up with a dozen requests a day from this game.
Not making threats, as it's probably most likely I just move on to something else and don't come back. Point is upholding minor bans on TaE because someone thought they made sense years ago is a lose-lose proposition.

Re: [Troll & Elves] drewisfat : house glitch
I think we're not here to discuss the rules. I agree house glitch isn't really gamebreaker but it's stated that you musn't use it. And it looks like you knew the rules and still did it.

@xikens @drewisfat ENT welcomes any form of public input. Please post a suggestion with pros and cons as to why we should allow a clear glitch in the map.
