Name:Shane

Age:18

Game moderator specialty (see below for choices):Island Defense, Tom And Jerry, Can also moderate/process requests and appeals for Line Tower Wars, Hero Line Wars, and Hero Wars and many other less popular games if needed.

Brief introduction:Hello ENT, my name is Shane. I’m a graduating senior from a rigorous college prep high school with a 4.2 GPA. I’ve graduated with a highest honors diploma and have been accepted into Harvard and Penn. I received my first Gameboy when I was young, which introduced me to the world of gaming with some Nintendo games. As I got older I started to branch out to various other games, such as WC3, LoL, and also started up a very small business within minecraft that gave me a lot of valuable experience. I’m also an experienced chess player and an active sailor, and have an odd interest in debate and logic.

What are your current hours of playing time (approximate)?Currently about 8-9.

What is your current time zone?EST (UTC -5:00)

Describe any relevant experience, both in moderating and in Warcraft III:A few years ago, I got my first experiences in the world of moderating by running a small minecraft server with the goal being earning a small income, I eventually shut it down due to me getting bored of it… but it gave me experience in the world of running a business, prioritizing with time and finances. I also learned many important aspects of moderating in-game such as enforcing rules, ban appeals/requests and how to handle them properly, forum moderation. Also Due to the average age of people who play minecraft, I’ve had lots of experience with bizarre ban requests/appeals, flamers of all kinds, and all the challenges of having to deal with younger kids.

Why do you want to become a game moderator?A few months ago, I honestly had no motivation to become a moderator. I didn’t see any major problems with ENT as a whole, and enjoyed playing on its servers. Then I started playing Tom and Jerry more and more, and saw (what was to me) the high numbers of base destroying, maphacking, and game ruining players there was. I eventually decided to sign up for the forum and start posting appeals; this is when the idea that I may try to get a moderator position hit me. I believed I had the required responsibility, and I made sure my activity wasn’t an issue either, and I have the time to put in; so I decided to apply. Regardless of all of that, I wouldn’t have applied if I didn’t feel a need to be part of ENT or that ENT had a part for me in their staff. I know some of the lesser played games well, and can also competently manage Island Defense and Tom and Jerry ban requests, Tom and Jerry also seeming to be teeming with rule breakers and maphackers which is why I may put some extra time into it, but processing ban requests and appeals will be a #1 priority.

What will you bring to the ENT/Warcraft III community? My work ethic and ability to work with the other moderators should be some of my stand out qualities. I’m not afraid to put in the hours needed for this position, or take the time to refine the skills that will be needed. I’ve tried my best to take the time and help people out when needed these past few weeks, whether it be helping them correctly fill out a ban request/appeal, or telling them how to use ENTConnect, or explaining what the difference between a delay and legit fog click is… and I can assure you that these skills will carry over if you allow me to start working as a game moderator.

Closing Statement:I understand one of your main concerns will be that compared to most people, I’m relatively new to the forum and some of the backend things that keep ENT working like a well-oiled machine. If you decide to deny this because of my lack of experience, I’ll understand. But I can assure you I’ll be back, I have determination I can help this community, and I don’t quit at something I’m determined to do.

Thank you for taking the time to read this application, I appreciate it ;)

One Last Note: In 24 hours 2 weeks will have gone by since I created this account on the forums. I was told since there is almost no way this will be accepted in less than 24 hours, it is ok to post this now.

Good read, sounds like a responsible and competent person.
If I may ask, what are you going/trying to study?

Going into medicine, Ended up choosing SBU (Stony Brook University) over the other schools because they have an excellent medical program, and I received a full scholarship.

From what I have seen so far,

User is capable with id and tom jerry ban requests. He is comfortable with fcd and drm.

I can clearly see that Shane feels a purpose/motivation towards the community.

If he can be active with brqs and appeals, I'll gladly vouch him.

Neat app.

That sounds like a really terrible decision. Medical schools will look far more fondly on Harvard or Penn degrees, and both have incredible pre-med programs. On top of that, in need-based cases both are extremely generous with scholarships. I strongly recommend you consider either one of those schools if it is possible even to defer admission slightly (due to it currently being June).

As to your app, it's well developed in terms of ban-request activity and fog-click identifying. However, I think you could use some more experience dealing with ENT rules as some of your posts (looking over your history) seem to lack thorough knowledge of ENT rules.
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=32711&p=141785#p141785 : If there is proof, ENT can whitelist your id and ban your brother's account. Moderators do care about differences on IP - especially since many times people are in fact wrongly banned by IP.
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=32291&p=140238#p140238 : If all the team permits it, players can leave according to the rules as they were previously, and is avoiding "game ruining".

All in all, I would vote for a deferment of a few weeks - considering your activity and familiarity with FCD, refreshing yourself on the nuances of ENT shouldn't be too intensive.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=32711&p=141785#p141785 - Slight error in wording there. there. In that case his brother supposedly used his account, there was no multiple accounts instance as you stated may invoke a whitelisting. Should have said he was responsible for what happens on his account, not IP.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=32291&p=140238#p140238 I never said anything against this appeal. The only reason I may have suggested a reducing in ban time instead of a full on unban (which is what I would have done now) is at the time of me posting that I was still solidifying what a typical response is to appeals like that. Sorry for any vagueness in my wording.

In my opinion, I have looked over and understand the rules thoroughly. In the two cases you stated I the errors in made were only in vagueness and a mistranslation of the rules to a specific case, not a complete ignoring of the rules altogether.

Also on a side note, I did not fully express all the reasons for me choosing the school I did. But I trust I've made the best decision I could ;)

I know shane from chat and from his comments on a lot of appeals and requests.
In my cases, he was always helpfull and acted serious.

and by the way, imo the iq or what you reached in school is unimportant for a mod.
E.g. I got an IQ of 148 and 4 scholarships were offered to me. In the first semester of my informatics study I got a contrat
on SAP for the time I made my bachelor, with hourly earnings of 80€ in the first year, 105€ in the second and the opportunity
of 150€ from the third year. Now on my chemics study I already got the offer from the university for an own laboratory with a high budget and free choice of the theme of my research. But imo that has nothing to do with my skills as a mod or my behaviour.

However, !support from me

Thank you for your support, but I never meant my education to take center stage in this application, just something in the about me section. I'd appreciate it if further comments refrained from that subject, thanks!

Why exactly did you get bored of moderating?

Why do you think did thr number of game ruins "suddenly" rise, making you apply for mods?

I didn't get bored of moderating that server, just constantly having to maintain the server as a whole. The main reason for this being that the number of people playing it dropped off, and with few players it wasn't worth the same investment of my money and time as it was before.

What was to me a high number of game ruins in Tom And Jerry was possibly due to a low number of people reporting players from Tom And Jerry on the forums. Since a significant portion of Tom And Jerry players speak Spanish, and English not so well, there is a language barrier stopping people from using the forums to report game ruins, as I can speak a bit of Spanish and am willing to dedicate the time to Tom And Jerry, I found a worthwhile motivation to apply for a mod position.
