Lod 6.83d Crashing

Postby noasis » Mon Feb 02, 2015 4:05 am

Hello!

Long time user of both ENT and the LoD maps. I had just seen the update to the 6.83d map and so I proceeded to download it. Upon 10 players joining the game, my screen, like typical, went to the loading screen, but my loading bar stopped loading right above the "D" in "LegendsOfDota.com", and i was ejected from the game. I ran the game in single player mode several times and the same thing happened (with the loading bar stopping above the "D" each time). I download the map again, ran it, and the same thing happened.

I do admit the computer I am running it on is rather old (and a mac). I don't have any reason to believe that is the cause, but just in case it matters.

And I have attached a text file of the apple crash report if that is useful.

Thank you for your help.

Played about 10 games so far, no crashes.

    @noasis

    Still having this issue? Try private hosting the map and see whether you still experience the same issue when trying to play the updated lod map. If not, it may be that some file in your wc3 including your lod map is corrupted or that you indeed need to adjust your graphic setting.

    Since others are playing the map without similar problem, I am guessing that the problem is not from ENT nor from the map itself.

    @nabo.

    Yes unfortunately I am still having this problem. I have tried private hosting, and it still stops the loading in exactly the same place. I have downloaded the map from 2 different sources. (First time, while being in the lobby for the game, and the second time I went to http://www.dota682.com/dota-6-83d-lod/ to download it.) I also have successfully run older lod maps in single player mode, so I doubt it has something to do with my wc3.

    At your suggestion, I lowered my graphics settings, yet wc3 crashed at exactly the same moment as before--when the loading screen is right above the "D" in "LegendsOfDota.com". When looking at the crash report, it also crashed at the same place as prior attempts to load.

    But if you have any other suggestions I would be grateful to hear.

    Thank you.

      @F-Train

      That is quite possible. Fortunately I am in the process of building a new pc. But due to the New England weather, shipments are being delayed.

      So when that beauty is up and running this problem should go away! But until then, it would be nice to be able to play.

      @noasis Are you using Snow Leopard? It has known compatibility issues with some custom images / textures that maps commonly use.

      It's something that the map maker can fix.

      I am using Snow Leopard, because Macintosh operating systems after Snow Leopard (10.6.8) do not support PowerPC applications due to Apple's discontinuation of it's Rosseta software. If I were to upgrade the OS, I would not be able to launch WC3.

      Is it odd though that this is is the first update of the map that is incompatible with Snow Leopard? Why would the mapmaker suddenly decided to implement a different kind of "image / texture"? I wouldn't think they would still be updating the images and textures in such a (I assume) drastic way, rather just updating the map for soley balence purposes.

      Also do you think that the issue will be resolved with another patch? Or has support for Snow Leopard discontinued?
      Thanks.

      I didn't know that, that's interesting. But yes, it's certainly a problem with WC3 rather than Mac. Although since WC3 will most likely never be updated, it falls on the map maker to implement workarounds.

      Map makers don't intentionally cause the issues, there's a long process that goes into making sure every texture is Mac compatible especially after the map has been optimized. My guess is that the optimization process simply attempted to compress the textures to make the file size smaller.

      Looking at your crash log, it seemed to mention an observer slot. Does such a thing exist? Is there a way to disable it? Perhaps it's not due to images at all... I've never heard of such a case though. It would probably be best to get some other Snow Leopard users to try the map out and see if they have the same issue as you do.

      @neco

      I do remember having seen an observer slot for some other games, but not for this map. And unfortunately, I do not know any other Snow Leopard WC3 gammers, so I come up a little dry on that end.

      I was trying to run other versions of the map (all created by DracoL1ch--the map maker) to see where the error began. I successfully ran Dota v6.83a LoD v1b. I have been unable to locate any v6.83b LoD. (I found one v6.83b, and I put it in my WC3 maps folder, but it didn't show up when I launched WC3... Both v6.83c and v6.83d crashed upon loading (the same way with the same error code, although in a different thread).

      From this point I will shoot DracoL1ch an email, see if he responds, and hope for the best.

      As not much more can be done from your end, I suppose you would like to close this thread. Would you like me to let you know if DracoL1ch were to respond?

      But either way, thank you for your assistance.

      Meanwhile you await for draco's response, try running the wc3 patch again: https://us.battle.net/support/en/articl ... me-patches

      Remember to download the mac one.

      I did run it again, but I was already using the most recent patch. Unfortunately, the same crash occurred.
      Thanks.

      While back when I used a macbook pro, I used to not see certain units(invisible) because of a corrupted file or something to do with graphic compatibility and unit skins. I had to reinstall wc3 and install patch for each ROC and TFT (not just TFT) and it worked. Cant really say what your problem is, hopefully you find a fix soon. May be this lod simply doesnt support mac.
