Have any of you people out there played on blizzards default servers as of late? If not I give you a small challenge; next time you are sitting in a channel, search for a ladder game. Now some of you may think blizzard has a 10/10 service going for ladder players, you sit in any channel you want and wait for your game, these games can't be stacked or dodged either because there is no lobby. What you may not realize is that bnet games are no longer moderated to any degree by blizzard; the maphackers can run wild, they can fog click all day and no punishment will come their way. Now that seems bad I'd say, but really that is not the worst offense bnet has to offer. When warcraft 3 was the hot new game it was the early 2000's, aka almost every player had shit internet. What blizz did to try and balance out the highly varied connections is put in a built in 250ms delay to their games. . . yes that's right, every ladder game you play on bnet has your ping +250ms built in.
Now some people may say "just download w3arena u dumbo". While w3arena is for sure a good service, there is a key issue here as well, and that issue being that it runs on the previous patch. It is certainly possible to revert warcraft back to an earlier patch, there are even tools for it, but really it is a pain if you just want to play a ladder game or two and then go back onto your usual realm to play with your buds.
WOW HE FINALLY GETS TO THE POINT:
So what does ent need?? Well if you read this far you probably guessed it already: melee maps on autohost. It is time for ent to have a ladder system of its very own.
What this entails:
I suggest a 1v1 bot that cycles through a set of 4-8 maps. (if there is no one on the ent team currently that knows ladder maps well, I can aid in selecting maps)
I think it would also be nice to have a dedicated bot to 2v2 games. As well as bot that cycles through 3v3 to 6v6 team games.
Would this be a competitive environment, or a noob friendly zone?
I think it would increase host rates if 1v1 and 2v2 bots had w/l kept track of, as well as an elo system.
Although I think it would be best to have no elo system and don't track w/l for 3v3+ games, as this would be an ideal place for new players to come and learn what warcraft 3 was originally created as.
Closing thoughts:
At this point in time ent has a fairly strong monopoly on the custom game scene. I think if melee maps were introduced on autohost bots it would bring a great platform to veteran players, as well as introduce melee games to whole new set of players.
