Pudge Wars

Postby CumInMyAssPlz » Tue Oct 29, 2013 3:04 pm

Hi, the bships thread reminded me of this:

Bots are currently hosting which I *thought* was the newest version of Pudge Wars but after playing the latest map, it does appear that since I had last played (years ago and same version your bots host, 1.24) people have continued to work on this project and release new updates.

Anyway, point being: please update if possible. Some quick research (i.e. google search) yields that there are a few "newer" ones, by which I mean, newer than 1.24; v2.0Xx

Note: I don't think many people play this, at all, period, however I wonder if more might play on your autohosted games if it was the newer map. That said, this is obviously extremely low-priority so keep in mind I don't care very much and I doubt many others do. As for modified stats versions, I hardly think it's worth the zots (if current 1.24 hosted map even is, which offhand I want to say it's not).

Thanks.

I see lots of newer maps, do you know which ones are legitimate?

I'm still trying to determine which the latest version is, and ascertain a legit spot to link.

I do appreciate your interest here. The one I DL'd in lobby from someone hosting via ENT (was not autohosted game but I was using ENT connect so possibly this person is on forums or otherwise known to people here?) was 2.01h, which I can verify is legit. However it looks like there's tons of other versions which appear even more recent--2.03x for instance (2.03d was found here and file seems legit so far although I have yet to play it. Then there's also a newer version of the Advanced map which you are currently hosting: v1.26.

I don't have any problem whatsoever with 1.24, and the 2.01h I played seemed to be more or less identical--the only things I really noticed were some shiny new gfx on icons and other fluff. However, I noticed that the 1.24 ENT games seem to always be completely empty, whereas the hosted 2.01h game had joiners very quick. So, my main interest here is merely the hope that the autohosted games might get some action. I love Pudge Wars and I was happy to see you autohost it.

Anyway, I really am unsure at the moment which map/link to recommend. I'm trying to do some more digging on various forums and map sites to see if I can find any indication of which map(s) are currently the most popular/best/legit/whatever.

I'll post again here soon. Thanks again/

Just so you know I haven't forgotten about this and I don't want you to think you wasted your time by offering to update as per my suggestion.

At the moment I've recently found a pudge wars forums which seems to (believe it or not) be slightly active even up till this year. I've asked for help in recommendations for which map to host.

I will update this soon if I get an answer back, and if not I've got a suggestion anyway.

Thanks again for looking into this--I know it's probably one of the least-played maps around at the moment but your faith is encouraging!

Ok I have gotten an answer from a "vet" on the PW forums

Seems trustworthy enough :D

"Ah saw topic on ENT site with ur comments
Last official version 2.03d, last update in juile 2012
Version 1.24 has drop-bug this lighting rune, and "little" disbalanced
Versio 2.00(almost beta) and 2.01h not perfect.
Last official version 2.03d, last update in juile 2012, this is the best that "we have"

So in this case if uaf.kb and/or whoever else would be responsible for this decision still thinks it is worth your time, I would recommend the 2.03d map

http://pudgewars.forumotion.com/t61-latest-v203d / which redirect to hive @ http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/maps ... 3d-178683/

and here is the changelog as well in the .00000001% chance anyone is interested  :geek:

Thanks again to all you guys here and please no worries if this is not worth your time or effort atm or anytime soon

Awesome, thanks!

Yes, I'm in the game atm, seems to be working fine on the host side.

Also, I just noticed you host TBR! Wow that takes me back. I better stay away from that particular addiction!

Thanks again and hopefully this will bring a bit more attention but....who knows :|

I think as possibly the only one who cares about PW around here (or maybe some lurkers who haven't checked in) I can safely say that this bot can probably be swapped over to something else if that is ever needed....probably won't be missed if you ever need +1 autobot for something else

But in the meantime I surely appreciate your effort and hopefully a few will come!

Cheers and ty 3rd time on a truly awesome setup/network/system/DB

Hmm, okay well

1) Maybe not as grim as I thought, already had 3 joiners....course 2 DL'd and left but 1 stayed

2) The one guy who stayed had some information to offer

I figured I should let you know, I am not certain nor is he whether this is a "problem" or just something random which happened to him

He says under 1.5 hours ago he was in game #3 and it became "semi full" with him +3 other people, they tried to votestart and he says it was counting down but then he got kicked at the last moment

He said he went to rejoin but it was now this #4 game (still up now)

I asked if he was autokick for high ping maybe, he said he wasn't sure, but shouldn't the countdown have stopped if only 4 people in game votestarted and 1 leaves in countdown?

If not then I guess the game just started with 3 people

Anyway, he was not sure, I'm not sure, but you asked so here is something maybe

I dunno if it's an issue or just a weird thing

Thanks again and I will update this again if I discover more in the meantime

oh, also he said the old version which was hosted would crash when lightning hit the walls, I seem to remember this from years ago so i think it was a map bug not a bot issue, but anyway this should be an improvement then :D at any rate this guy was happy about it since lightning is the best way to deal with lame wall spammers :P

I updated the slot configuration, seems like it's 5v5 max now instead of 6v6.

I saw at least one game fill and start the other night, so it looks like whatever you did worked.

Thanks again for your time here and I hope I've done something at least marginally beneficial with the request.
