Changes effecting the public to be made public

Postby RESTLESS » Tue Dec 03, 2013 9:03 pm

All changes to ENT effecting the public should be made public to the public. How are people suppose to understand changes and value them for what they are if everything is kept hush hush on mod forums.

The alias checker was removed from public use with pretty much absolutely no mention of why. This tool was often used by the public and many people are left wondering???

In general anything ENT gives or takes from the community should be publicized under news and updates, isn't this standard for most communities when the leaders change things? people are told whats going on?

You've already opened a debate concerning the alias checker here..

I suggest to lock this thread down and continue the debate in the other..

This is a separate subject in which the debate I have already begun is an example used. This subject can easily apply to far more than the one matter that I gave as an example.

Typically? No. There are tons of things the government does that it doesn't inform the populous of when it changes things. Also companies phase things out or remove things all the time. Software companies remove functionality from software without telling users constantly (believe me, I know this one first hand.)

It really depends on the situation. If there is a blatant need for disclosure, such as a legal situation or management (or in this case the Administration) decides something needs further explanation or needs to be explicitly stated, it happens. Nothing is "standard" when it comes to change.

In the case given as an example, I don't remember the explicit details of what exactly was stated as a "public announcement" of the tool being removed (or if there was one) however, there was various discussions about the topic all over the forum at the time. Most users that actually read a lot of what is on the forums would know the gist of what was going on and probably figured the decision was made to remove the tool from public use. Those who don't read much of the forum, probably didn't even know of the existence of such a tool since you had to read the forum in order to get the link.

(I'll post some more on this topic on the discussion specific to the above case example.)

Is the alias tool the only example you have for this suggestion? The alias tool was closed from the public a long time ago and to be quite frank, it was never even announced to the public that such tool existed so I didn't really see a reason why we should be forced to make an announcement for its removal.
