Improving the Banning System

Postby Kokufu » Sat Sep 12, 2015 1:41 pm

Hey Hard Workers (Administrators/Moderators),

I noticed there have been so many bans due to being disconnected, fatal errors, or even electricity being shutdown. I understand how annoying it is for someone to leave in the middle of a game and come back to another game like nothing happened but shouldn't there be a time limit to how bans work? For example, if someone was truly disconnected from Warcraft 3, couldn't the bot recognize it by searching for the player through their server and banning them if they are still online after leaving the game and not banning them if they are not online?

To explain a bit more, if someone was disconnected, the bot should search for them and if they are not online, the ban should not be implemented. If the player is still online, the ban should be implemented. To further prove this, some people will leave the game by hitting the "Exit" button and closing out of Warcraft 3 entirely to avoid the ban but will not continuously do this since if they want to play another game, they will eventually leave the game and result in a proper ban.

Also, I looked through the Wiki and cannot find anything about "Banning reasons" so maybe adding some more reasons for bans could be more beneficial to those who are looking to figure out why they have been banned? Including the possible length of bans.

I don't know if this is even possible to accomplish but some people actually have valid reasons for not being banned and, as a result, cannot play their games when they are actually able to, for example if someone was banned on Friday night improperly then on Saturday, when they have much more free time, they will not be able to play their games.
I have no signature, thank you for reading this though.

Here you can see the "banning reasons" aka rules.

People would still be able to pp and it wouldnt result in a ban, so i dont think a thing like this will be implemented even if its possible (i dont know its technically possible or not).

@Kokufu

Although I understand the purpose of your suggestion, it is short-thought.

As Guennter stated, people pullplug to manually disconnect on purpose out of games. Sometimes it is obvious in that they disconnect while doing really bad or after flaming or after stating he will do so.

The bot does differentiate between someone "disconnecting" vs "voluntarily leaving" vs erroring out.

Voluntarily leaving would be when someone exists wc3 via the "Exit" button.

Erroring out aka would be when someone fatal errors and wc3 application crashes down. In this case, there will be a crash dump file located on your warcraft III/errors folder.

Ban length is determined by a player's stay rate, ban frequency(disconnect a lot or not), and number of games on ENT.

All in all, w/e your reasons of removing yourself from the game whether intentional or not, the impact to the game is same: teams become unbalanced and game may become unfair. Disconnecting often out of games is considered "game ruining". You are free to appeal your ban. If not, based on the assumption that you dont disconnect often, your autoban should be very short. Autoban usually exists only for team-oriented games.
