at every USA institution exams aren't happening during most of this time (also in most of world it's not). also work/life doesn't really change by week. and if exams started, then studying started more then 2 weeks ago.

Wasn't the decision to increase the ELO threshhold precisely to decrease activity?
I mean, raising the bar literally excludes more people.

It was to stop hugmeonce getting his mates to go on 1100 elo accounts to up his elo.

It was obvious that it would lower the player base but raise the skill level. You can't maintain the same amount of players but raise the standard.
