Mass or up?

ok so here is my question,

for lvl 15:
is it better to mass spectre unupped or up them into wraith?
is it better to mass sprite or up them into thunderbird?

for lvl 20:
is it better to mass dragonhawk or up them into griffin?
is it better to mass seer of dark or up them into phenix?

i know everybody got their own preference but i'm just wondering what you guys think about it.

For 15 I find massing spectres is much better than upping them. Their strength lies in their huge range and insane attack speed - giving rise to almost no damage waste and them focusing down centaurs hard and fast as they approach your line. In practice, it can be difficult to build them depending on what your line is/how far close to mid you built, since they occupy so much space, but generally they work pretty well.

I've never tried massing sprites on 15, but my gut instinct would be that they are better than thunderbirds. Again, depends on your auxiliary units.

For 20 I much prefer hawks to griffins, as I think their combined dps/value is higher and you get less damage waste.
If you have any mass killer Fenix is probably better on 20 than seer, since it's dps is more than twice as big, but if you don't then massing seers is probably more efficient - again depends on what other units you have and how well they synergise with seers/fenix.

personally, I can only comment on the 20.

for seer & hawks, efficiency would be to mass instead of up due to both have high gold cost to upgrade and if you sorely need the magic damage to hold 20, massing them would be more efficient. if you have proper support, you could up fenix, but I wouldn't up to hawk for griffin.

lvl 15, I find combining spect and sprite gives the best result. You can choose to get 1-2 wraiths also.

lvl 20 mass hawks hands down, seers only work occasionally based on focus and placement (that is not to the hawks do not need placement, but the success rate with hawks is higher)

I would take griffin only if you have a lot of hawks/magic/debuff and can afford to get 5 or more of them.
