Hi,
I would like to know your opinion on Hand of Midas in the new map.
I've never used it before since I never played a carry and think it was not really benefitial. But now I kind of like it very much on almost any (supporter too) hero. It's not the additional gold that I like that much, but the exp (esp. on the bigger neutrals).
If your starting items are: gloves of haste + trees ..HoM is farmed relatively fast.
any thoughts/Am I doing it wrong?
Hand of Midas
Re: Hand of Midas
I dont like gloves of haste as the starting item.. You need healing, + attributes, dmg, wards etc. U can buy gloves as the next item if your lasthit skill is good.
Btw: If u play support, dont go this item, its cost too much for your hero and u have to buy some sup items and warding. You are not supposed to farm with sup heroes.. Rather stack some neutral or ancient camps for your carry. (If you play non-em games)

Re: Hand of Midas
Hand of midas is a non-em farming purpose item.
Generally if u dont get midas by 6min of the first game....ur wasting ur money. Its like saying it is a waste of money to get radiance after 17 min of the game.
It takes about 20 minutes for u to get ur gold bak from midas.
Midas is an investment for mid late game.

Re: Hand of Midas
its rlly situational.
if you're on a support that can extend well and can use the levels that HoM gives, get it if you get it before the 15-20 minute mark and ur team wont lose out too much. for ex, AA can use it quite well.
if you're on a carry and can pick it up without costing your team the game, get it. however make sure its not too greedy (a lot of carries these days are better off getting hotd for the sustain + stacking which gives roughly the same gold but more fighting ability etc). make sure the other teams lineup isnt able to end the game early.
also radiance is a farming/splitpush item so its not a waste to get it after 17 minutes. anything below 20-23 minutes is fine if ur able to utilize its splitpush potential on heroes like LD (send bear to push out lanes that are getting pushed in, then recall to hero to push ur own lane), terrorblade (illusions to splitpush), naga (same thing), and spec (guaranteed damage + farming ability). but really its a lot more multipurpose than just a farming item.

also dont be the guy that gets hom on jungle heroes. it legitly makes u useless for 15 minutes, and since u already hurt ur teams laning abilities by forcing a hero to solo a sidelane, ur not gonna be able to make up with the early-midgame transition impact that junglers are supposed to have.
Re: Hand of Midas
What int hero doesn't benefit from early additional lvl?
I've played some games now with it..and usually get it at lvl 3 or max 4(I am on the side lanes where the opponents dont bother denying..or if then 1-2).
But like I said, its the 2,5 times exp. that is not to be underestimated. When you use it on the ursa neutral lvl 5 its almost one whole lvl that you get!!!
for example at the min 10-15 I am one of the highest lvl with like 2 deaths..comparable to those who ganked and have 1-2 kills ^^
I used to buy wards among the first items..but when you play lets say krob..ur team benefits more if you get really fast ur lvl 6 and push towers or gank.
(To stay with the death prophet as an example.. the HoM gold is a plus, but on her it doesn't make that much difference..since i get this amount of gold easily with swarm.)
stats are not so important I think..because the most heroes (I play) have an easy lasthit animation.. so like someone already stated...the improved attack speed is a nice thing...and works very well imo.

Re: Hand of Midas
^yeah thats true, getting it on supports is pretty legit.
also just want to throw this out there DP and necro are both carries not supports.

Re: Hand of Midas
Imo, to get advantage of midas u must be an experienced player with good map awareness and a good farmer. Its no use to get a midas when u hardly have like 30 creeps per game even when u play carry and u get ganked all the time. In pubs midas is not rly good item bc ur team is never patient to let u farm all the stuff u need to win the game. In competitive scene yea, midas can be rly helpful. I would get it even on offlane windrunner so I can farm guinsoo fast. The most bizzare thing that happened to me in the past was when we were playing vs a team that their 0-9 support earthshaker bought a midas in 30 min game cuz he was underleveled... we were laughing cuz we thought he was just trolling-admitting defeat, but in the end we lost that game bc he got 16 and destroyed us with agha
Re: Hand of Midas
only heroes midas is actually a viable productive option for in pubs are void and dk

+tiny, sniper, skeleton king, naix. in void i prefer bfury rush (or dagon )
Re: Hand of Midas
i would actually argue midas is viable on almost every hero in pub games. the reason is that pubs rarely know when to push/not to push, meaning they have no ability to punish your getting midas over a early/mid-game fighting item such as a drums or the like.
not sure why you would mention DK and void in the same sentence there as there a number of other heroes that benefit from getting farm more than DK and many that benefit from level 16 just as much as him (natures prophet for example).
tl;dr works on almost every hero except wisp i guess

Re: Hand of Midas
"Viable on almost any hero" - false.
If u play 100 games vs me and u get midas every game...depending on ur hero, i will feed off u.
The question should be whether midas is a "best alternative or efficient" item for its value, pros, and cons for any hero? No...i can see many other items more "viable" or effective or efficient than midas for many heros.
As i stated, it is a matter of how early u can get this item for better performance in the future. For many heros u can farm as much gold not using midas through better cs or kills.
In em, midas is rarely needed. U can get kills diving and using stronger spells from faster lvling. But in non-em where there are greater intervals for hardcarries to farm...yes, midas is viable.

em games take quit long now to lvl, too... yet you get your midas much faster than in non-em.
Re: Hand of Midas
its completely viable on every hero since it gives you lategame extension paths, which are extremely useful since most pubbers think pushing is a terrible idea unless they're six slotted. if you're able to splitpush (or in pubs i guess ud call it afk farm/push) reasonably well, and couple that with a midas, you really can't lose. and that can be done on almost any hard carry. on supports, its a lot less viable in em, but in nonem, where levels are impossible to get (seeing a lvl 5 support 15 mins into the game isnt uncommon), its definitely viable on every hero in the game minus a small subset.
so i guess its really dependent on like you said em vs non em.
