Signing then going afk

Postby Krumme » Fri Apr 11, 2014 10:04 pm

When you sign for games - please be aware you are signed and check often since it is really annoying for people to sit and wait 10 minutes (if someone accidently signs then unsign because more/less people wants to play than there could be in the started game)

@EldryanTheWise this is personally ment for you as you did it earlier today but it counts for everyone!

my tag is actually @eldryan , but there haven't been any games today where I was signed and afk. I wanted to play 2v2.

we do have a dodging rule - however if this is an issue, why not just give more players !lihlunsign? and make a rule saying don't abuse it unless someone doesn't respond after 30 seconds? seems easier then all of this waiting...

So what you are saying is that you weren't afk for the game where 7 people waited for you to unsign - and you didn't respond when I whispered you
- you were still in the last game which got drawn so either you were afk or just ruining the opitunity for people to play on purpose?

Easier to give people more powers they can abuse than people not signing and going afk? I lack the reasoning in this - we waited much longer than 30 seconds yet I didn't sit with a watch and counted the seconds but it was several minutes and with no hope to see you unsigning/responding we decided to sign for the 2s (which you didn't show up for either) and then we unhosted it and made a 3s or 4s
So please elaborate what you did

- bottom line let this be a warning to all not to mess with peoples time and especially I hope all will unsign when needed so as many can sign as possible

EDIT: right sorry bout that - @Eldryan

I was waiting to 2v2, can swap others in.... This is hardly not giving other people a chance. We do have a rule saying we can swap if all agree. (Just kidding. I guess the rules were changed without me noticing, and have been broken three times today in the presence of moderators:
!swap may be used if
there are issues with the slots.
a player does not like his colour.
a team agrees to change the lanes.
It is forbidden to (ab)use the command to switch the players from opposite teams.
To start the game, type: !start
)

On the power note: obviously it is easier. They can abuse swap/unhost already. This isn't different. The only other option is to let afkers sit !signed, or wait 5 mins and unhost according to the rules. If they do abuse it, just ban them.... Same as abusing anti-stuck, mercenary, unhost, or 10000 other things against the rules. Giving players power isn't a bad thing, and if they abuse it then it shows something about their character that can be taken into account for unvouches. A little brain use goes a long way.

If there's 6+ people waiting isn't it common sense to start a 3v3 not a 2v2???

If there's 8 ppl including myself, we can do two 2v2 or a 4v4. I preferred two 2v2.

Thanks for the hint, that part is obviously outdated, see the game rules below instead :D

Ontopic:
I don't know what exactly happened here so I can't comment on it. But as krumme said, please avoid being afk while being signed.

First of all this is how 6-7 people saw it
- you were in the already drawn game and not in the LIHL chat waiting for the game
- you did not respond to whisper
- you did not join when the 2s was hosted

From our point of view there was no indication that you would respond within the next 15 minutes so swapping people into a game in which you didn't join would just seem to be even more waste of time and I'm sorry if you feel overlooked but never the less you did not give any respond and people were eager to play

- the rulechange is for another topic

Hope this clears up the misunderstanding but never the less it is not cool to sign for a game and let people out on purpose so I hope you will change your mind for another time - and I hope people will be more patient when people are signed but not responding

I think the underlying problem here is remotely signing? Eldryan shouldn't be signing into a game if he is already in a game. I've seen a few other players doing this and I might ask uakf.b to remove this function altogether if it continues to be a problem.

I signed before I joined to observe. The continuing issue is that ppl can't unsign afkers for 10 minutes, or unhost for 5 minutes - absurd lengths of waiting.

Just a lie.

Like krumme said, he joined as observer when the 2s didn't get started, which we remaked after 5-10 min. Then 7 people waited additional 5 min in the channel, until we got it unhosted. He was afk all the time, not waiting for 2s or such...

everyone can forget to unsign once, but lying doesn't make it better. Or you just wanted to reserve a slot?

No, the issue is, that people don't care enough and just go afk.

I asked krumme to report this, because making 7 people wait just sux and it kinda fits eldryan's attitude.

But I think we can leave it like this and don't need to overdramatize anymore. :)

Numerous compliments, where do I begin? At the end of all your accusations when you decide everyone can leave it at you stating I am guilty and have a terrible attitude and am a liar? Sounds great....

For the record, you didn't wait close to 5 minutes. The game I was observing only lasted for 8 minutes, it stopped 3 minutes after everyone left - if you want to look yourself. I waited close to 4 hours whispering dozens of people to start a single twos, then I don't sign in the following game so we can get 2 games started instead of one 3v3 - however braveheart (unintentionally in his defense, he was swapped in without speaking) and several others went and ninja my spot, making the second game I had started impossible. So I start obsing. Clearly the issue is time wasted, however, the solution is not "that people don't care enough and just go afk".

I meant we can leave it with the reminder to not go afk after signing to everyone, ofcourse you can say what you think.

Waiting so long for a game sux ofc, but still why go afk and block games for almost 15 min?

Yes, it was. I watched the clock.

Anyways lets just try to avoid such in future, not a big thing.
