Mod Position: Love@USWest

Postby Love » Sat Apr 12, 2014 7:37 pm

Topic Name: Love@uswest
Name: Joshua/Josh/Love. Take your pick I will respond to any.

Age: 18

Game moderator specialty (see below for choices): Civilization Wars (Most played game), Island Defense (Most played game before account was deleted for inactivity), and DotA (I can detect MH well, and am familiar with some but not all glitches)

Brief introduction: Hello, my name is Josh, I've been playing Warcraft 3 since 2002 but I have taken several breaks (resulting in account deletion because Blizzard removes accounts that have been inactive for over 3 months). My stats get reset but I still have much experience in playing Island Defense, Civilization Wars, and DotA. I love to play this game because after 12 years, it is still my favorite game and I think that everyone who plays Warcraft three deserves to have the peace of mind knowing that if someone makes them have an unpleasant experience by breaking the rules, that there will be someone who can help them with their problems.
A bit about myself. Im a Highschool Senior who will be going to college next year, I have good grades, lots of time. I love to play video games, go to the gym, take long walks at night, and spend time with my girlfriend.

What are your current hours of playing time (approximate)? Mon - Fri: 3pm - 11pm. Sat - Sun: 11am - 11pm (Please note that I am not always on WC3 these entire times, I play other games and go out but I always have access to ENT Forums via my smart phone)
Also note: I will be traveling to Israel some time at the beginning of summer. I will still be very active in my duties as an ENT Moderator but the time change will be in effect, I will spend time on the forums but my hours will be 9 hours ahead of PST

What is your current time zone? Pacific Standard Time

Describe any relevant experience, both in moderating and in Warcraft III: I comment on forums dealing with bans a lot, and have dealt with the Tribunal System in League of Legends as well.

Why do you want to become a game moderator? Well I've dealt with some very irritating things that happen on Warcraft 3 and honestly it makes me a bit angry when you get that one troll who ruins your game, then in the next game you see the same guy. I know lots of gamers who have the same problem, and I want to keep that problem from arising. Im not trying to preach justice or anything, I just want all gamers to have an enjoyable experience on Warcraft 3.

What will you bring to the ENT/Warcraft III community? Simple, I will bring unbiased responses to all ban requests as well large hours of activity. I will have no problems with banning someone who has broken the rules. Friend or not, if you break the rules you must be ready to accept the consequences. As previously stated I spend a lot of my afternoons at my computer, I will be available for basically that entire time to accept any task that needs dealing with.

Closing Statement: I have great respect for the game Moderators who have to deal with countless Ban Requests, and watch a seemingly endless amount of replays. I have spoken with some of the current Moderators about what they do and I am thankful to every single one of them for not only taking their time to help all of the Warcraft 3 players with their problems, but to help me learn more about the job of a Moderator in the hopes that I will be accepted as well.
And to everyone who is reading this, I sincerely thank you for your time :)
Kindly,
Josh

I have a question here, what will you do to stop this from arising?

Then, here's a situation : you join a game, someone troll, you're asking him to stop doing that. Fair. He keep doing it, he's ruining the game on purpose. What will you do after like three warnings? (Remember, the said person is making you and your allies losing intentionnaly, the game is not done and if he leave or stop trolling, you might have a chance to win). What is your decision?

So yea... I'm lieing, there's kinda two questions.

Other than that, I would like to see how it goes for next week around the forum before saying yes or no.

You still look good for the position you're applying for. Good luck.

@NutzSucksHard To keep the problem from arising, I will inform players of the rules that they are breaking and what the punishment is for breaking said rule. If the trolling continues a ban request will be submitted, depending on the rule that has been broken a votekick may be appropriate. If they are intentionally feeding in a DotA game I would consider a votekick. If it is just someone being new to Civilization Wars I would attempt to teach them how to play, I never votekick a noob. If we lose the game because of a noob then so be it, nothing I can do except move on. If we lose the game because of someone who feeds another team, I would report them even if we won the game. It doesnt matter if you win or lose, someone who has broken a rule should still be warned or punished depending on the severity of the violation. And as always I will never flame at the violator, flaming only breeds flaming. It is a vicious cycle that nobody should be caught in

In the short time I've known Josh, he has been a helpful and versatile set of eyes in BRqs. He is capable of scanning replays with the unbiased attitude required of staff and is not afraid to play devil's advocate even in seemingly simple cases, which are often the most deceptive.

Additionally, he has familiarity with CW, and while we are never drowning in CW reports, they're generally pretty tricky. His experience would be of value there.

My only suggestion is that he go on chat more often and begin getting to know current staff and forum regulars. If he does this and is able to stay active, I'm in full support.

You are a new face. Hello.

You seem to have taken a long break from wc3. If you dont mind me asking, why?

After taking a long break, why suddenly have the desire to become a mod?

You say u are familiar with mh for dota.
There are two type of cases: one which requires ur experience and knowledge of the game and other which requires the use of fog click detectors. From what you have posted so far, I am not convinced u are "familiar" with mh. Do you play dota?

Your greatest quality that I like is that you are are a CW player. We do get CW requests and not many mods play the game, so thats a plus.

You have recently joined the forum and you have the minimal number of posts. I would like to see more activity and evidence that you "know" and can analyze the games, especially with CW.

@nabo.
Yes I am indeed a new face :) I took a break to focus on getting my grades to the standard of my preferred college and to travel for a while as part of a program offered through my school.
As to my experience with DotA I used to play a lot of DotA but Now I am mainly an ID and CW player. I feel that I am experienced enough to make judgement calls about MH when someone double walking but not clicking on someone in DotA and ID, and I know how to detect Fog Clicks as well, after a rundown by one of the other Moderators.
Yes, I play Civ Wars and I tend to play quite a bit. I will be posting quite a bit from now to show that I can be active. And I will make sure to try my best to be on every CW request as well.

You seems to be a good choice for the staff from what I've seen around your post on the forum and your answer. You made the good choice and I don't feel like you're lieing in any of your word.

So that being said, for other moderator that will check your request, maybe add some link to BRQ or Ban Appeal you've been helpful or that you think you did something usefull in it (add link that show to us HOW you do/will MANAGE request and appeal). It's not only about the fogclick, but your own judgement and such. Adding some link to these request would be cool - I guess.

I'm not on the forum anymore, really I don't play much wc3 but from what I've done here and there, given my spare time for this community, I just love to come by and check moderator application. After that, I don't care you know... But I wish the best for this place and a long live to wc3 game of my child time (dunno if it's how you should say it noob grammar). w.e... I think you got me there hehe :P

Also, I can see you are answering pretty fast wich is good.. but it's your apply to be in staff, I was considering that you would be aware of what is going on in this thread ahah. I tested you a bit, without using the @ thing. You've answered my question in 8 minutes. Wich is fast and great.

Ok, less blabla. I support you and wish you the best of luck with this application.

Your badass retired staff, nutz-

Who's bau on euro? And which account did you use for playing ID in the past?
Did I comprehend it correctly that your focus would be the forum work and less games or to ask slightly different: Which do you prefer, forum or game?
Information, Rules, Guides and everything else you need to know about ENT is on the ENT Wiki.

@aRt)y What do you mean by Bau on Euro? And my past accounts for Island D were Subbub and DoubbleBubble. Those accounts are long gone unfortunately, I am quite positive that they have been removed for inactivity. And I can game and do forum work at the same time. Civilization Wars queues can take up to 4 hours to start, plenty of time for me to be on forums while I wait for a game :) And if I had to pick, I'd probably pick the forum because being a moderator is a responsibility. It should be treated as a job, work will always come before play.

My only question is, Are you willing to take some of your gaming time, dedicating it into forum work?

You will have to take an hour or so of your playing time for forum work, Are you willing to do this?

I would prefer waiting a few weeks and seeing if he can maintain his activity, as well as some vouches from people that know him ingame/the forum. Completely random guy with no previous experience shows up, comments on some BRQ one day and applies for staff the next.

Not saying I wouldn't necessarily support in the future, but wouldn't at the moment.

@jew haha yea, I knew that comment was coming. Most of the people who know me in game know me from Civ Wars though, I don't think I've played with any Civ Wars mods. It's a fairly unpopular game which is highly unfortunate. Also I shall maintain this activity level until I travel to Israel for two weeks, at which time my amount of time on the forums will stay the same but my hours of activity will change due to time change.

I play civ wars with love pretty often. I'll vouch for his knowledge in the game. I don't ban request often, but when I do it tends to take a while for it to get processed because of the lack of admins that play CW. He would know the game plenty well to make accurate judgments for whether or not someone should be banned. He's a good guy too, I don't imagine he would abuse the powers.
