DotA: Basics - Training

Postby Hatedmaru » Fri Sep 12, 2014 10:48 am

Heya there,

Dind't knew where to post this, or if its allowed, but the idea would be to help new people (or even the so called noobs ... ) to understand the basics of dota (or even heroes, tactics, overall, etc etc), and help them improve. Ok i do know theres thousands of players and it's not like everyone will read this, or everyone is willingly to accept or do this, but why not give it a shot?

I've met a few people, specially on these last days, that quite surprised me. They had low ELO scores (I still follow the idea ELO is nothing sometimes), yet they were willingly to accept help, advices and actually hear what i had to say, and ended up in showing to some people that they can actually do good if trained/adviced.

So if anyone reads this and wants help or anything while playing (I'm not a huge mega pro which always wins or something, but i can help and give advices to people :) ), i don't mind spending time helping people getting better or having games where they can practice while im in their team to help/give advices. I'm from europe (Portugal), but can log and play on us east (i get mostly no delay at all, so it's fine) or us west (actually this one never tried so cant promise i wont lag ^^). In case anyone feels like checking me for some reasons, main accounts are: Hyorinmaru. and SabakuNoGaara. ; So just write here if you wish, or pm me in forum and ill try to keep in touch so we can do it =) hope people wants it :D

PS: Forgot to mention: Usually during the week, im more online at night, but at weekends, got more spare time and can be more online during the day (morning, afternoon and night also ^^)

I'm waiting to help :)
Best regards

recently I talked to a very dear person about some hero builts. Usually I agree with him (as long as he does not disapprove my necronomicon :> ) But when it comes to counter mortred, we can't find common ground:)

so my question is: what items should a leo or sniper go if they face mortred on the other team (when mortred is one of the strongest players according to stats). Actually.. what is the order of items? what is the first item, what is the second item.. etc :)

thx in advance:)

@sparkles

In general, you need mkb(monkey king bar) against mort to not miss your attacks. For sk, you want something like soul ring or other items that increase your mana pool or regeneration early in the game, so you can stun + ult. Sk is tank early and a carry late game. He lacks movement speed, therefore, going something like dagger is nice later on if you dont have an initiator.

Sniper...is a very situational hero that requires very good positioning. Farming isnt hard with his headshot, but with no map awareness, you can die easily from burst dmgs early game. I suggest you learn other heroes.

As for other items, you should buy things that will help you boost your damage/attak speed/some tank. What items you get and when you get them really depends on your opponent heros + how well you are able to farm.

We too agreed that mkb is needed. My idea was it to rush it after boots and lothars on sniper and perhaps bf on leoric.
He disagreed and said that mkb is a luxury item and you get it later..after your other core items.
On sniper he would go first dmg/attackspeed..later on mkb.

I told him that its wiser to go mkb after lothars..because : true strike with ok atackspeed> every second hit with more dmg/higher attackspeed.

He disagreed for (according to him) it is not sure if he will be able at all to attack her..and its better to focus on other heroes until then. He also prefers bm on sniper over rushing mkb.

But i think its a waste since sniper lacks hp.

But it seems to me you kind of support his strategy regarding mkb. Which doesnt surprise me...he is also a very good player.
Thx for your answer;)

Early/mid items are recommended for better farming and more lane viability. If you can sustain yourself and get kills and farm...you can buy anything. Stuff like bfury or radiance is a luxury item, but some people tend to rush them because they give u better farming capabilities. Cases when your teammates can defend lanes or push or gank creating room for you to free farm = is most ideal for a hard carry to grow and get beefy. Yes, luxury items should not be first core usually. But, does not mean you cant buy part of the complete item.

Instead of thinking what items you should get for what heros as a "standard" or "guide", you should think about what items are needed against certain heroes and realizing when your hero is most effective (lane, early, mid, late phase). Depending on these factors, you can decide when you should be farming more or killing more or going for luxury items.

Mkb only enable it to fight mort. That don't mean that u will win.
Mkb is an offensiveitem against mort. But what is with morts crit? Morts basher? A sniper dies with critluck in 4,5 hits and u can maybe shot 1 hit with mkb, coz morts bash stunned u :]

So in my eyes is the best counter to let mort eat their own damage --> bm
If u die with 4 hits, mort will do the same. She don't have that much hp all game (except with heart or satanic as luxury item).
If I could give you one thing in life, I would give you the ability to see yourself through my eyes, only then would you realize how special you are to me...

Blademail is not an item for hard carries. Buy on sniper? lol. Sniper's role is to not get focused while killing all while staying back or where no vision with its far range... we are not talking about a plain ground 1v1 punch fight to death.

Perhaps its an ok item for sk who should tank.

A hard carry who has more farming capacity+ gold possession...will have more than enough life to hit through bmail, live, and kill or should have a bkb and you will waste your item slot and gold on bmail. I rather buy escape items or disables or more hp items or more wards/tps to support the team.

This was my problem with bm too. I even feel like boots are a waste too..cuz this slot can be used better :>

A few times i sold them with mortred..cuz her blink is good enough for chasing :) ik this is not really smart..in late game boots of travels are often essential for pushing/throning.. But i cant help the feeling that its a waste:)

Bvb and i jsd the talk about bm Vs mkb earlier..as far as i understood..he meant it's better to get this if you are keen to counter her midgame..where she as well is still fragile.

More like..if anything, get bm cuz its cheaper and reduced to 2-3 Hits..more effective than early mkb.

It's very easy to stop hitting someone who is using bm. So you have to be stronger than mortred herself.
Blademail is usually used by initiators heroes (clock, pudge, lc...) if you are playing them well, they have to hit you, and blademail can be helpeful.

It's true that Mkb is necessary vs mort because of her high evasion, however, sniper may be an exception, because headshot cannot miss. This means that sniper has better dps vs her than pretty much any other carry, so I don't think mkb is that crucial. I recommend getting good ms on her and lifesteal is important too if she ever catches you. So something like phase yasha mom aquila sounds strong. And please do not get bm on sniper. Bm is a vastly overrated item and is often bad, only few heroes can make good use of it.
