The Handling of SS Test's

Postby Dong » Wed Feb 24, 2016 1:04 am

I may be a little over my self here, But

Screenshot Procedure
  • A LIHL moderator pauses the game or whispers a user ingame to do so.
  • Once the game is paused, do not unpause until all players successfully has shot a screenshot. Press the "Print Screen" button to take a screenshot.
  • Make sure that the screenshot file is in .tga format (file located at Warcraft III/Screenshots folder) and that it came out correctly.
  • Go on ENT forum and send a Private Message with your ss file attached.
    • Compose a new PM.
    • Select "LIHL Moderators" from the groups on the right side and press the "Add" button.
    • As subject (pm title), put the date and your name.
    • As body (pm content), write whatever you want.
    • On the bottom, press "Select file", select your saved screenshot and press the "Add the file" button.
    • Send off the private message by pressing "Submit".

Since SS test's are not listed under rules, This is the only, and therefore the Official Screenshot Procedure.
My point in showing this is, no where in this Procedure(and i have read it a couple of times) Does it mention a time limit for sending your SS of any kind.
Whit that being pointed out, i see no legit reason to ban/punish people/players for breaking a rule that simply does not exist( is not written ).

If it is however written somewhere, i am just not aware of it, and it should then be more visible/clear to all members/people/players.

i am also sharing this to help moderators actually moderate from something written, wich can be refered to, or Quoted. Instead of home made reasons.

@Dong

An ss test is assumed to be done fast. By common sense at this time period (2016), taking a screenshot and sending it should not take over 3 minutes. I would say 1 minute...but...

We have yet to set a standard time limit because, until now, we had to increase the number of ss tests being taken so players would get used to taking ss tests and eventually speeding things up at "expected" pace. Not many ss tests were being taken in the past and ss test was not a requirement to learn when being vouched. I remember when I first did ss test, you took some time to send yours...I think you fine now though.

As you may have seen quite a few times, some people are just super bad with tech or act like it...which I do not have further comments about.

Dont need stated time limit. Rules do not have to be quantified nor always specifically stated as you may think they need to be. Once mods think we have done enough ss tests that people know what to do ANY EVERY time, we can mayb mention a time.

Thank you for your answer.

I just think that the punishments given so far, has been a little too harsh, because as you wrote your self, the community are still adjusting to the ss test's.

Not sure how long unvouches are being given, but being harsh makes sense considering how sensitive ss failure or procedure itself has been being discussed. Also, there has been a greet message on lihl channel stating that people need to know how to take a proper ss test and send it and shouldnt take more than 3 min or so.

If unvouched, people have the option to appeal. Im sure mods are reasonable.

@nabo. SS tests are so unreliable. People take like 5+ minutes to upload sometimes and they could easily just be editing the SS in that time. Isn't there a way for the ENT bots to detect whether someone is maphacking?

Answer your question by asking yourself: Why wouldn't ENT use it on all other games..?

Short answer: No, bots can't detect what you've client-sided loaded.
Information, Rules, Guides and everything else you need to know about ENT is on the ENT Wiki.

So SS tests are useless unless they are uploaded within 1 minute basically? since people can just hop on paint and cover it? lol

We have caught a few maphackers with screenshot tests already, so no, they are not useless. What is possible in theory doesn't always apply in practice.

Additionally, like I already mentioned in another SS thread, one can find out if an image was altered in Photoshop or something similar... it's all written in the exif data...

Please consider that the ban duration might be high but if you also check how the appeal got treated (Fanatismo, Rolders) in the end then its a far cry from being unfair, as long they can prove they can do it afterwards - in case they fail again then it wont be a light punishment for sure, because it also drained a huge amount of time from other players in their cases.
