I was playing a game against HealbyColor last night, and for all the world it looked like my team would win, however the game ended up 2v4, and despite our best efforts we got beaten. I realise this is inevitable in some points with d/c's and desyncs. However I feel if possible something should be done to soften the blow to the members of the team disadvantaged by the leavers. This is my suggestion:
With regards to LTD Mega 3.41, I think the main issue with leavers is the massive disadvantage to the team-mates left down in numbers. If you are a man down, or worse playing 4v2 or 4v1, it is nearly impossible to win the game, if the opponent is even slightly organised.
If possible, I think a way to reduce the damage done by leavers to your team is a percentage reduction in ELO loss when you lose a game with less players.
For example, for every player less on your team when the game is lost you get a 25% reduction in ELO loss.
e.g if the game is 4v4 and your elo loss is 10, when you have leavers on your team the corresponding elo loss should be like this:
3v4: 7.5
2v4: 5
1v4: 2.5
I do not beleive the winning teams ELO gain should be affected.
What do you guys think to the suggestion, if it is even possible.

Re: Leavers and ELO Loss [Legion td 3.41]
I don't think you understand how the ELO system works.
The essence of the ELO system is that the ELO mean of all players is 1000, if you toy with that you are breaking down the whole system.
The system is fine the way it is, there is a reason why higher ELO teams gain less ELO.

If you read what I suggested, it is not toying with the system - it is offering a way to soften a blow when you are faced with what is basically an unwinnable situation.
The way I wanted my suggestion to work, is that after the ELO is calculated, the winning teams ELO is not altered, but the disadvantaged (by leavers) ELO gets a modifier applied to it. As a way to reduce the frustation at being lumped with a fairly unwinnable situation.
It is a suggestion, and I am looking for constructive discussion, not you being dismissive.

Re: Leavers and ELO Loss [Legion td 3.41]
When one team does not gain what the other team loses - that will alter the Mean ELO so its not longer 1000.
If your team has lower ELOs and you leavers, that is a contributing factor to why you will gain more ELO than what your opponents will gain (Provided you are on the noobier team).
Overall the system works the way it is intended, if your sample size is large enough your ELO will rightfully correctly reflect your skill level.

Re: Leavers and ELO Loss [Legion td 3.41]
I dont really understand your last post. Perhaps because I dont fully understand ELO. Which is why I asked if technically a modifier could be attached once the ELO was given out.
The fact of the matter is, there is simply too much of a disadvantage for teams with less people in LTD. ELO doesn't take this into account, so working at intended does not mean that it is working fairly, which I am trying to find a solution to.

ELO isn't something to win, it's a measure of skill and it converges to to your skill level.
As for leavers, both teams have equal chances of getting leavers, so this shouldn't affect ELO loss, otherwise it would leave the stats system open to abuse (like, having someone on your team leave so that you lose less ELO).

Re: Leavers and ELO Loss [Legion td 3.41]
Since your ELO is so high, the ELO gain/loss is actually different from what it will say on the website before the game starts I think. Higher ELO means that the ELO is more likely to be converged so it uses a lower learning factor.

Re: Leavers and ELO Loss [Legion td 3.41]
Anyway it's with the map, Legion TD Mega doesn't mark leavers as winner so they're considered to be on losing team when the stats system calculates ELO changes.
