Courier mines

Postby EdgeOfChaos » Sat Feb 27, 2016 2:13 pm

Killing mines with your courier should be bannable, but apparently it is not currently. If you're not aware, techies has Land Mines which deal damage when triggered. By using a courier, they can trigger the mines but not take damage from them. This is a glitch in the current hosted version of DotA - all other versions had the courier die when they hit mines. In DotA 2 also, couriers are killed by the mines.

The reason is that it is quite obviously a glitch, so falls under this rule:
Rules wrote:6. Do not purposely glitch or exploit the game.

And it's quite strange that this glitch abuse was allowed to begin with. Just because people do it frequently doesn't mean it's OK - I'm sure people would abuse all glitched as much as possible if they were not bannable.

Imo its fine you can just kill the courier with 2 auto attacks lol. Not having a courier for 3min early game is huge. Imo although an unintetional bug, its not gamebreaking and hence shouldnt fall under bug abuse. Summons can also kill land mines all game long at a relatively small cost. Most people upgrade their couriers to flying fairly early so its not an all game lasting problem. If you are the techies player just be prepared for it and kill the courier, which will hinder the other team severely. The more i think about it the better this is for the techies player. Ez 150 gold early game, couple that with a bounty rune which is faily ez to get with techies ur already 250 gold up.

All bugs, game breaking or not, are still banned under the rule I quoted. I don't see how that justifies it.

Can anyone confirm/ask the dota dev how it's intended to be? Thanks

well if they are triggered to hit enemy units (including air) then its not a glitch, and courier is immune to magic dmg too

Edit: are there any heros like hippgryph, dragonhawk, etc? if so, then mines are prolly triggered to hit air....

air courier does not trigger the mine, so i am assuming you mean the dog?

Yes, the dog does not trigger the mine dmg (tested) so yes, it should be bannable. however, at the same time it should not be, since mines are invisible and the player would have zero knowledge of activating them by accident. But can easily be tracked if they just keep the dog and not upgrade it.

People definitely don't do it by accident. When someone sees a techies choice, they will bring the courier around and move it through all the regular mine spots in the pre-game time.

Yes they use the courier to search out early mine spots and destroy the mines. Not only that but now they know where techies is and to bring wards.....not that they dont usually search for a techies anyways, but that comes at a price if they dont know where the mines are at. Using the courier eliminates that price.

So a simple courier (doesnt matter which animal; not flying) causes the detonation without dying. Considering the dmg is physical, the courier should be affected. So the conclusion of it being a bug sounds logical?

@aRt)Y courier (not flying) dies to mines in Dota Lod 6.85h. So I guess it is a bug in 6.83.

But whether it is bannable/how to determine abusing (once? twice or above?) will be you guys' call.

I would say if they are bring the courier out of the base to search i.e running around with out purpose of delivering items should signify enough evidence of what it is being used for.

It's probably a bug. Land mines deal mixed damage (which means both physical and magical). The allowed targets for land mines are somewhat complicated and hardcoded. They should be able to damage magic immune and ancient units like couriers though.
