Uninstalling GProxy

Postby Kugro » Tue Aug 30, 2016 1:32 pm

Ok so I want to start off by saying I tried GProxy in a couple methods after reccomendation from a friend since I was desyncing all the time. Sometimes I could even willingly force the desync it was so common even in a map I'd never desynced from before. Needless to say the deynscs were ruining what was left of the fun of wc3, and when it takes you 30 minutes to get enough people to start the map and load it up then you desync at start its pretty irritating.

Enter GProxy, First game was fine, second game I dropped immediately although it tried to keep me in the game it just wasnt going to happen, it was a desync and it seems GProxy wasn't worth its salt but rather just an annoyance to other players. So I deleted the config, .dll and .exe files (because I tried both versions). Well when I start up wc3 my network is set to GProxy despite having deleted all the files in the folder (I had a GProxy only folder but I did have to put a .dll in the wc3 folder for another gproxy version because one is .dll based another is .exe based.) So I deleted the files and folders associated and even went to my downloads folder and deleted the .zip files that they came from, when to recycle bin and emptied it out.

Deleted and uninstalled the warcraft 3 game compltely, downloaded a fresh install of ROC and TFT and patched both via the blizzard website itself.

Start up TFT, go to network connections, guess whats there in this brand new folder that I just literally created from Blizzards own installer, Yup. G fin Proxy.

So is there a registry file somewhere or a folder hidden in %AppData or something that i'm just not aware of? Where are the hidden files or whatever that I need to delete. And yes i've tried deleting the bncache as well several times.

Now, deleting GProxy would be nice. But we all know we can play Via ENT Connect, now the next day I try to get on wc3 and from what im seeing online maybe ive been IP Banned or something, my CD keys are still working and im not banned from ENT so i can only assume its a temp IP ban or a permanent one idk but regardless for whatever reason im not able to connect to B.net (I used that ban checker thing too and it said i was maybe probably banned temp IP)

Well heres the kicker. When I try to get on ENT Connect first off, clicking that E doesn't do anything useful, it just starts up the Ent COnnect web page, doesn't do anything about helping me find my game in LAN. I hate ent connect because its nearly impossible to find my particular game and if you dont find it in like 3 minutes guess what it auto unhosts so you just repeat the process. The overwhelming spam of ENT tagged games just floods out any other games. EXCEPT: Guess what? Games from other days that aren't even there! What! So now I see the last game I joined with 8/11 players same game name i gave it, and of course you cant join it since that game ended days ago. You'd think that would be enough problems but no. I can't join probably 90% of the games that appear in my LAN game list, they all say unable to join specified game and I know for a fact most if not all of these games ended days ago because after seeing them 50 times in my LAN I kinda remember their names and checking the current game list reveals they aren't even there to begin with. I do however manage to join a couple games whose names i dont recognize, so I AM able to see current games. But 90% of the games are old games I can't join even if I wanted to but I have NEVER found a game I hosted except the last one I hosted which resulted in desync after 5 seconds. And clicking the E in game list doesn't bring it to the top of the list either. I've ever tried to just randomly join the first game on the list in hopes that the name was just glitched.

Sorry if this is a lot but these problems didnt start until after I started messing with G Proxy. I'd rather take my chances with the desyncs because at least with desyncs I could actually occassoinal play. I really dont know what to think and i've given up trying to find a solution on my own so i'm here asking for help, if anyone knows how to FULLY and completely remove G Proxy (Other than reformatting) (And yes I uninstalled Wc3 fully TWICE and did 2 fresh clean installs still having GProxy pop in the list.) But more importantly than G Proxy is getting the ENT Connect to work properly, so if anyone has any ideas i'm open to all suggestions at this point.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have no idea why GProxy is still there for you but it doesn't protect you from desyncs. Desync basically crashes your game, it's not disconnect. To get rid of desyncs, you should delete all 3rd party programs (like hotkey modifiers, maphacks, etc). Now you can still desync after that but then it's the map, not you.

to remove the gproxy from the gateways (it has no impact if its there or not) you need to edit the gateway file in the warcraft registry.
open the registry editor (under windows "regedit") and find the warcraft folder.
it should be something like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\\Blizzard Entertaiment\WarcraftIII\Battle.net Gateways
will edit the exact path as soon i come home.
there you should be a file which contains the gateways and some number.
just delete
----
localhost
1
GProxy
-----
and it should be gone
but again the presence of the gproxy gateway has no influence if you dont connect through it.
