Trouble DLing WC update on windows10

I can't get the update from Warcraft. It downloads the update for Warcraft III on battle.net, but once update is successful (bar seems to fill up really fast almost as if it didn't fill up at all), and I click the button to restart WC 3, it makes a noise, produces some sort of error and crashes out of Warcraft and a white dialog box says Warcraft III is already running.

How do I fix this? Anyone else run into this problem?

Run wc3 as administrator before you patch. If that doesn't work just reinstall...

running as admin didn't work BUT when i went to uninstall it said some files might get left behind and that C:\Program Files (x86)\Warcraft III\icons.bni* could not be found and asked if I should uninstall anyway. Well, should I uninstall anyway?

Try using the Warcraft III Launcher.exe in the war3 directory if all others don't work.

now I've got a new problem. I can't launch WC III after I lost connection and exited out of bnet. It said it couldn't find a cd key or a CD itself and wouldn't launch. I retried the launch file again and that didn't work either, it just wouldn't launch. Not responding etc. So then I switched to Windows 7 Compatibility mode and that seemed to fix it so far.

yeah pretty much now. It was a weird issue, the WC Frozen throne shortcut refused to work and said something something reinstall something something check CD Drive no CD key found, but if I use the green Warcraft Icon (generally identified as the "Reign of Chaos" icon) in the program list, it will work. So, I can get into Battle.net and play.
