Legion Commander

Postby Fangorn » Thu Aug 22, 2013 7:34 am

The two most frequent common mistakes I see when pubs play legion; they get either basher, or halberd, or in worst case scenario, both.
Legion is a hero that needs to be able to take damage instances, which means that he benefits from hp items. You do not want to make your enemy unable to attack you, because of your passive skill. Some might argue with that legion is a versatile hero, but he really is not. He is a straight forward hero, with little chance of item variation. What he needs is hp, (movement speed), damage and (blademail).

Legion should in nearly all scenarios go wood, as he can clear woodcamps very fast.
A typical midgame itembuild would be:
- Str treads/phase - depending on your lineup, aswell as the enemy lineup. If you got disablers in your team, consider treads. If you got few, or none, you need that extra ms phase provides.
- Wand
- Stout shield into a Vanguard
- Sange - a great hp item, go for s/y, an item which recieved a buff in the last patch.

Extensions:
- Blademail
- Lothar/dagger
- Buriza/desolator

As I stated, legion needs to take damage instances. Vanguard provides everything legion needs to set up his ulti; raw hp and damage block.

Stop making basher and/or halberd on this hero!

If u are facing a beast like Ursa on the opponent team, then u need basher at some point, in order to take him down, before he kills all your supports in the blink of an eye. In general i hate the new blade mail, where u have to activate it, so I dont buy it often, especially on carries, and lc can carry fairly well if he gets early dmge, especially after the +18 dmge on 16 lvl. So i buy first lothars, to gank asap, then maybe vanguard, even though sometimes i make a poor man shield and i buy just the vitality booster to make a heart later. Desolator is after that. I skip Desolator only if they gank me all the time early, so i get a dominator to stack ancients and keep up with farming. Now if the game doesnt finish yet, and i need to fight the opponent carry, i go for AC and then basher-mkb.

#Basher works good with the attack speed your heal gives you.

Assuming ursa got a bkb, blademail isn't working. Still, buriza and desolator is chosen to get ursa down, with the help of your team.

In general i hate the new blade mail, where u have to activate it, so I dont buy it often,

Hahaha, before i quit dota, bm was passive and was returning 20% dmge to melee attackers. Now that i started playing again i find some changes frustrating

20% perma blademail is kind of overpowered.. No wonder they changed it.

And anyways, 100% for a few seconds is more fun IMO. You can surprise the enemy DPS heroes and take them down easily if you get lucky :D.

I like building Lothars and then Battle-Fury on legion commander (after treads of course). What do you think of that build?

with lc i normally go forest or safe lane, so i farm bots and rush lothars, i never get in a fight if i dont think is necessary, then buy phase boots blademail and more dmg items like deso, or mkb or if things are not going well, more basically items like drums

typical ppl cant think for themselves. why would u stun or evade attacks and render legion commanders passive useless?

ppl are just so stupid...
ive also frequently seen dumbasses get blade mail on cent. They than blink in middle of enemy team and use stomp and IMMEDIATELY use blade mail...... while they fuckn enemy team is stunned. 0 dmg returned. brilliant.
this is why ENT is so awesome.

Actually, your passive triggers when they attempt an attack, just like counter helix and return. It doesn't matter if their attack connects or not, it still has a chance to proc. Evasion isn't terrible in this sense.

Ursa's passive gets disabled when you duel him :-)

Off-topic... Legion commander is a chick in dota2 :o

Yeah, thats true. Although, I still find halberd to not be the item of the choice for this hero, as you don't benefit from the disarm.

Or do you?

Remember that Moment of Courage has a cool down, it cannot proc more than once per 1.2 seconds. If a few creeps are in the vicinity, and you aggro an enemy hero, all the creeps will attack you. You can safely use halberd to disable a carry and proceed to duel whoever you feel like should be slain :-).

However, I suppose it's all situational.

Armlet seems like a fun item to have =).

Solution: hp and blademail!

Bm won't work against skeleton king for example :P Leoric just doesn't care about bm with his lifeleech. Naix too...

Both Leoric and Naix are considered mid game carries, so is Legion. It really depends on Items to decide who wins during 30th - 40th minute.

Legion is best played as a killer during mid game, picking up preys and instilling fear in the opponent team. Causing the opposite players to be fearful of laning alone basically.
Thus, his core items will be a proper Boot, Lothars Edge (Shadow Blade in DotA2), Blade Mail, TP scroll (if Boots of Travel is not purchased), Vanguard and a BKB.

Like any good drafting, 3 supports, 1 ganker (Mid game Carry) and a hard Carry will provide a pretty good line up which promises a win in mid game and a chance to win during Late Game :)

Without a hard carry, the prospect of winning Late is almost doomed.

Nah, Leo is insane late game. With the right items(desolator, assault, armlet, mkb, basher), he loses only to Troll, Nessaj and maybe, maybe slardar - void. He doesn't have the farming ability of mid game carries like Lc does. Naix on the other side, late game is food for my Leoric :P
