Dota Rules changes

Postby NoPicnic » Wed Sep 25, 2013 6:22 am

Dota Rules need to be updated and rewritten. Too many mis-communications with admin bans.

Game Ruining needs to be black and white. Specific things need to be listed in rules. While others need to be listed as Game Mod discretion such as language and flamming.

This will help narrow down bans as well as get rid of loop holes.

Hopefully get rid of so called Admin abuse.

For example:

Maliciously selling/buying/spamming items to waste gold

Selling items to buy items such as force staff, dagon when no raxes are destroyed

Fountain Farming to the point where it drags out the game (this is up to the moderator for banning, warnings must be issued first before a ban)

@Yondaime @Agreements @Teller55 seems legit, we can either expand the general rules intentional game ruining or just alter it within the dota section period.

Either way I will support this as some people may find it too "broad"

DotA Rules (source)

Lucky for you, I agree with this suggestion. A couple of the rules are too badly typed out to the point of having a sort of loopholes to them.

• Item destruction: destroying, hiding, or stealing team items; suiciding courier; massing cheap items; repeatedly buying and then selling items

Bolded text can be changed to "Maliciously selling/buying/spamming items to waste gold"

Add the "Selling all items to buy items such as force staff, dagon when no raxes are destroyed" as a possible example.

• Excessive fountain farming: fountain farming for over three minutes or so is not allowed; end the game as soon as possible, because kills do not give you an important bonus.

Rule can be expanded upon to include "Fountain Farming to the point where it drags out the game"

That's my take on the changes can be incorporated into the rules.

Stealing others' work and calling it your own doesn't make you a professional map maker.

I don't see the point of this at all. Game ruining is game ruining, nothing needs to be spelled out.

You'll never have any "black or white" cases.

In general, posting requests won't harm anyone and the mod decides whether it was acceptable or not.
There are simply too many scenarios/combinations that it's impossible to nail them all.

This suggestion is combined with the complaint that is currently being issued, of how he sold all his items. now it does not specifically say that you cannot sell all your items to make another one but I derived that as "common sense" he believes that it should be blatantly said, therefore I will support this idea. If you take a look at the rules I developed for NWU we can just sub those in instead.

So you're going to make it a rule that you cannot sell your items to make a new one?

There is absolutely no need to expand on these rules. If it's deemed as a game ruining offence then that is the judgement of the moderator. If a player feels they are being treated unfairly then they can make a ban appeal.

Selling all your items actually. Why would someone 20 minutes in game, sell ALL their items to get one item. Combined all your items obviously are worth more than that one item you bought, along with that the one item you bought probably is not as useful then what you originally had, therefore it was a waste of gold and could be considered an attempt to ruin the game.

I think it's clear that selling items without the intent to ruin the game is not bannable. If you are not sure you should consult another moderator before handling the ban request. Or maybe I'm not understanding your point since I haven't had time to look at the complaint.

I really don't believe that there are too many combinations to list. When it comes to game ruining. They are pretty specific. If a ban goes into effect for game ruining, the offense should be listed on rules page so players are aware that they should not do that offense. Because in my case, some people might agree that selling items to buy a force staff isn't necessarily game ruining, but they might believe it is a waste of gold.

There might be a few other scenarios that come up that might need to add a new rule, but I don't see many to arise. ENT has a great list of offenses already. To add a few new specific game ruining rules if they arise isn't hard. Other rules have been added over the years.

@supersexyy Game ruining is not always game ruining. Game ruining is subjective. I know plenty of people who feel that just farming 90% game is game ruining, yet that is not totally against the rules. This is where specific game ruining rules will come in handy. And like I said in my above post. I feel we will not have to add hundreds of new rules. ENT has a great list that covers most, but there could be some more added rules for game ruining if people are going to get banned for specific game ruining offenses. This will also alleviate a lot of pressure on Admins and appeals to decide if a certain player is banned or not.

A lot of things can be considered "game ruining" behavior if it's shown the intent is to ruin the game.

Example: Farming jungle for 40 minutes so you can carry your team: not bannable
Saying "I'm done, i jungle and let you end" and then proceeding to jungle for the rest of the game can be bannable.

Do we really need to spell out everything that can be considered game ruining? Just don't make your team lose on purpose, it's not that hard. You sold all your items to make something useless before they even raxed a lane; the ban was legitimate.

Please stop using these threads to continue to tell me that the ban was legit. THIS IS NOT AN APPEAL. Please get that into your heads. Wow mods so eager to argue that my ban was legit. Really annoying. This is a suggestion to add a few more details to dota rules. Giving them better descriptions to help players know specific offenses.
If you don't have anything to say about that please don't reply.
