Erm, well I decided to give dota (1) a shot again. Seems like a lot has changed and the old LoD communities I used to hang with seem to have disappeared or dispersed in last 2 years or so. After spending some hours with lame google search trying to find if LoD was even still alive, I found "ENT" and a few others.
Anyway, I'm hoping to get back into dota and if at all possible mainly lod (although I imagine quite a lot has changed since I last played) since I had eventually got bored of everything but -ardm dota and then only lod was fun, normal dota just became unfun for me
Well, judging by recent activity this clan/community seems at least fairly active and I'm really hoping you guys have some LoD playerbase!
I'd love to hear any and all comments/updates with regards to "state of dota1 community" and such; basically I'm trying to get a feel for where things are at nowadays and the objective for me is to figure out where I can get the best ratio of enjoyment:grief when playing, and hopefully mainly some LoD.
As for "personal introduction" it'd be quite a long story and most of it might as well be ancient history by now, and at any rate there's no point to bringing up "i was shaman of xxx and yyy" and "i hosted bots for zzz" but in essence I played LoD since early days (Bob's OMG --> LoD) and DotA since RoC (AoS of course but that's truly ancient history).
That said, hello to all.

Re: Hi
Welcome to ENT. The state of dota right now is fair. Ent does the best job of banning rule violations and keeping violators out of action as I have seen on any server. Yet the mods are generally pretty fair about minor offenses, as long as they are not repeated in a pattern. There are still some very good players around as well, and while many people stack games, many people also smurf against stackers. So it all evens out. I do not know much about LoD except that it is quite popular.
I recommend you familiarize yourself with the rules, especially for LoD as certain builds are bankable :

Re: Hi
Thanks for the quick reply/welcome.
Right--I understand LoD is very different from back in "my day" (I think last version I played was when a "newer" update was finally released to incorporate newer DotA heroes/items which I hated but anyway that was a very long time ago). Before registering when I was looking around here I saw the rules and clearly I'm not up-to-date as I didn't even recognize some of the heroes--I kind of know who they are from watching friends play dota/dota2 in last year or so but hehe...Legion Commander, Xin....shrug...
Ensuring not to abuse glitches/exploits was always crucial to enjoying LoD both from the perspective of a pub player ("back then") and as an active administrator/moderator ("back then" but "later on") so I have nothing but respect for such rules.
I noticed the spoiler list posted was very short--is this the full list of broken hero/skill combos? I know it shifts across versions as old glitches are fixed and new ones appear; I assume this is the current list?
Well I seem to have activated/validated for ENT Connect properly and receive green applets, but I'm afraid I screwed something up with a lame/broken WC3 install or invalid CD key. Some searching seems to indicate that I may have gotten myself locked out of Bnet due to an inauthentic key.
Sadly the details of how to fiddle with the inner workings of WC3/bots/gproxy have long escaped my brain and I really find myself completely clueless at the moment (shameful!).
If I'm getting the green box but no games in the LAN list (and seemingly verified everything else in line with ENT faqs) I assume that the issue is something in my install, but any suggestions would be great.
If I can't login to bnet would that explain it?

Re: Hi
Well, a quick test of attempting bnet login on another server does seem to confirm that my IP has been restricted on Azeroth (after a few attempts earlier) due to inauthentic CD key; 1st Lordaeron login attempt was unsuccessful due invalid CD key but it did at least try.
So I guess I need to correct that problem before ENT connect will work? Or if that's entirely unrelated, what else could i be doing wrong?

Re: Hi
If I'm not wrong, with EnT Connect (if you want) You just need to go in Local Network (Lan) and it will show you all game of ENT. If I'm not wrong. I never used it. If you mean your CD-Keys doesn't work at ALL... You've an issues ahah
You can play on any server to play on ENT or EntConnect. Euro/Asia/East and West are all worth on ENT. So don't bother much about the 'server'.

Re: Hi
Ok, thanks for the fast replies, fellas. If nothing else it's encouraging!
My best guess at the moment is invalid CD key (and/or a weird install which seems to be a bit funky with some odd files and folders) is the source of my problems. I was wondering if I needed to tweak my router settings (port forward etc) but the fact that I'm getting green applet leads me to believe that there's no issue there?
I know it's customary to be very careful when discussing anything remotely approaching "legal conflicts" on gaming forums. How much detail can I go into here about my install and the source of that installation? I'm thinking I need to acquire a different install and figure out an authentic CD key--I currently do still have a copy of the tft disc but my battle chest cd case (with cd key stickers) is long-gone after a few years ago, so if you see where I'm going with this....can I use a "non official" installation and "non official" CD keys and still play via ENT Connect or similar gservices, or is this the stumbling block right there?

Re: Hi
Ok got it working finally (i'm such a nub)
Thanks a bunch to all posters + the guys I harangued for hours on chat
Played a game even but it was kinda lame with some nubs and leavers on other team and I got kicked or D/C anyway (which I'm sure suited everyone else just fine due to the state of the game)
