How does personal ban list work?

Postby mich_vee » Tue Nov 05, 2013 2:21 pm

I'm just curious if this really works. I got a few names banned for maphacking in my Werewolf games. This is not IP ban, right? and if players on my ban list attempt to join my game do they get kicked or not able to join at all? Thanks.

:!: P.S Hate that mhers swarm in WC3 I'm almost tempted to make ban requests but my game isn't that big of a deal but still mhers ruin games.

First you'd need to provide details on:

a) Which "personal ban list" program you're using

b) Which sort of hosting setup you're using

to answer is it IP ban, do they get kicked, can they join, etc

Does it really work? Sure. Does it absolutely ensure that person can never join your game again? No. Will it help make your games more fun? Maybe/probably.

Well, if you're talking wc3banlist program, I'd recommend it, assuming you're hosting yourself and have full control over banning/kicking as you please. It certainly can't hurt. This allows you to make sure you can always remember the people you don't want in your games, and if you have the power to do as you please, then it can only be a good thing for keeping undesirable players out. Although: don't assume it will 100% keep that banned guy away with any reliability, due to how easy it is to spoof etc etc. But even if it helps a little bit that's better than nothing in my opinion.

:)

Just don't start going too crazy with bans or you might end up finding it hard to fill your games ;)

He's more than likely talking about ENT Public Hosting and your own ENT Link Personal Ban List (https://entgaming.net/link/bans.php)

Okay.

I don't have any useful information for that. But maybe someone else does.

If you !ban in-game it should be IP ban (the IP's are hidden from you though).

@uakf.b If I ban on the Ent site it should still work right? also I had to enter a few bans on all realms whenever I didn't ban in-game

Hm, I'm not sure, presumably the ban on website works. But you can't IP ban from the website.
