I have been giving a thought to this problem recently and a solution to it as well that maybe, just maybe I think could work, so here it is. This is not a complaint towards anyone; just me trying to put some thoughts out with a solution. The people who are mentioned in this case, i.e. The DotA community itself can totally ignore this post, maybe relate to this situation, and hopefully try to act out as a good civilian in/out of game to bring out the best of what's left of the DotA community, here at Ent.
I feel like the DotA community here at Ent is getting detached little by little, everyday. It's like the only thing people care now is stats and k/d/r. I think this is a total downfall for the people who really wants to play and compete but they can't due to this game holding much more than just w/l and k/d/r. By that statement, I'm not here to discuss or disrespect the stats system; in fact I appreciate the stats system, as it dictates how much a player brings when it comes to competing.
With that being said, I still think the stats are also the reason why DotA community is getting apart in every shape and form. For example, all I see nowadays is "I can't be your friend, because omg you are 1.2k elo". Even the top players(stats wise) asks questions such as "What's your main" or "You can only play with us (if they are stacked with friends and for future games) if you fulfill our requirements". In other words, they are unwillingly doing "Reaping what they sow"(by being mean/disrespectful which will result in making bad players troll more and ruin more games). Not only this makes the "pub/newb" players feel shy and awkward, but they also have hard time surviving, by that meaning even making new friends in the DotA community. This results into "pub/newb" players in either trying to grind out and try to get better or just troll around and ruin games(and I mean lots of them; proof: ban requests, appeals, etc.)
This whole situation leads nowhere but to making the DotA experience bad for everyone who plays this game. How can we fight against this issue? Well according to me, I think the good players should try and act civilized at least by accepting the fact that they once were "new" to this game. Also, this game does not fail to teach something new to every player(good/bad, new/old) in every different game, i.e. buildwise, w/l situations, etc. Keeping above situations in mind, I think the veterans/good players should be obliged to respect everyone in the game ignoring the fact about just stats as it will only bring more hatred and discomforts once again in the DotA community. With that being said, I'm not giving a free ticket to bad/new players either. They in return should do the same as in being more patient and learn the game(if they are struggling) by respecting each and everyone as they are the underdogs trying to make their way around this game.
Moral of the story? You reap what you sow. The top/good players, if they are disrespectful/mean to pubs/new players will only result in more bad games/bad experience due to the pubs/new players only getting the feeling of hatred in the DotA community. I'm not saying to be friends with every single person you meet in DotA, but if top/good players are good at this game and somethings in particular, and want everyone around to be on the same level, then they better be ready and willing to teach thing or two without being disrespectful, obnoxious or egoistic.
Hence, in this way I think DotA experience can be enhanced by everyone, if people try to deal every game with patience and not judge a person mere just by stats. Hopefully, after this post, good/veteran players learn to be patient without being disrespectful and new/pub players learn to be patient as well with being ready to accept the challenge of making their own self better and head on to compete with the better ones in this game. All in all, both good/bad players should compete not only for stats, but also for making the experience of DotA enjoyable for everyone(including giving mods/admins here at forum a break or two from ban requests ) as it is still a mere source of entertainment. Tweaking MLK's quote with good intentions here... "Don't judge a player by mere stats, but by the content of their game play/character."
P.S. I didn't discuss this situation because this is about me or anyone in particular, I just felt like this is what DotA is becoming day by day and I'm sure, I'm not the only one who feels this. So, I decided to take a stand and maybe represent the ones who feels like me atleast.

Most of what you stated is common sense.
The irony is that, a lot of people dont even have common sense...Some r immature, some r simply idiots.
There has to be a balance for everything. You want respect? show respect.
Not everyone's the same: how u interact and socialize with others depends on u and the other party.
If it is a group of people u wanna hf with, find me on bnet =]
Dont let things get to ur head. Its just a game.

Really? I've played with Flowersnow and yuri (among others) and they never gave me requirements, o.0

Maybe I'm not referring to any particular people. I'm just referring to let's just say for example, a stacked team of 4 who plays together all the time and if they want a 5th? (Generic example I could think of asap)
Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
Ah, in that case, I do agree with you. Beating stackers is really fun though

You are right, it's common sense and that's why I thought this might need to be posted. Hopefully after posting this, if it even makes 10-20% of the gamers read, think and act accordingly; at the end of the day I would feel accomplished.
I don't quiet think "respect" in the current DotA community at Ent works like that. I would like to think that approx. 70% of the gamers feels that the "Stats" is the reason why they should respect other players based on their stats and what not, and vice versa. And a place where stats system is embedded with the games I think stats is what players think will make them "earn their respects", which once again correlates with my post.
Agreed, it's just a game but I come here to play and get entertained. But when it doesn't work like that I think some of us have to step forward and address the issue instead of keeping everything in mind. (Well that's how I am, critically thinking it up and maybe finding a solution to it )

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
-U gotta be convincing or have some type of influence over others to make them listen.
-The respect was just an example. My point was if u act according to wat most ppl treat as "common sense" or generally good/right, you will most likely receive the treatment u deserve. Therefore, you will have more ppl who like u than dont.
-Stats is just a representation or approximation of one's dota pub skill... Having respect in general due to stats vs having respect in person after personal interaction are totally different type of respect.

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
Yep I get what you are saying, two different respects. One in your own friend circle and the other in relation to DotA; if a pub/new player who has yet to make friends, can only earn respect via stats is what I'm getting at.

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
How so? lol I seen many ppl who made friends not due to elo. U dont need elo to make friends hahahahha. But ofc most ppl want to befriend others who know how to play. If u r totally new, learn the game and ask for tips to get better. If u r bad, there are reasons why u r bad; If u r good, there are reasons why u r good. Just because u may have an impression due to someone's elo, dont mean u cant befriend with them as u interact with them. How u view others and how they view u depends on personality mix.
There are clans, forums, game lobbies, friend lists...for a reason. Utilize them.

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
Once again this is not about me, I'm talking about making the overall experience of DotA enjoyable for everyone including the pubs and pros and I mentioned the reasons in my above detailed post and why.
You don't need elo to make friends, yes, but for a new player who is just starting to play this game/DotA and if they do bad by joining games then it's hard for them to make friends?
The whole asking for tips was mentioned in my detailed post in lines where I talk about having patience in helping each other to win games and what not....
How many DotA clans are active right now that welcomes new players? Please enlighten me. Lol
Forums? It's a place where people do official stuff, I don't see anyone come here and ask for help as I'm sure a new player would definitely feel uncomfortable posting questions since no posts to date have been accounted for due to that particular matter.
Friend lists? Once again, if someone comes back to this game after a while(where maybe friends have moved on, etc.), or if someone is just starting to play this game as a brand new player, it doesn't really help much in this case, does it?
Once again, my detailed post was to help pub/new players in order for them to be comfortable without being hated/disliked and I gave reasons as to why pro/veterans players should do that as in return it only benefits them in all cases.

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
I'll agree that people should act less immature and be open to help others.
But if the purpose of ur post is to help new players....i suggest you find a more direct method.
Tell me why would newbs have a hard time posting on forums?
If newbs will bother to read ur post, they will as hell have the guts to ask questions and ask for suggestions on this forum. Forums are not only for "official" stuff.....if it is...all u ENT needs is a page with announcement and rules. There are subsections where u are free to post w/e u want for a reason.
If newbs ask questions, many people will reply.
When I said friend list, i meant that u can add ppl to ur flist, whisper them, and group up to play together.
Clans? Not many are active, but why dont u bother to look for some =]
Dont need to be in the clan to ask for help and advice.
There are more ppl who somewhat know the game compared to ppl who start out clean sheet.
All in all, if anyone needs suggestions...feel free to ask.

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
I have seen people posts replay of the games, discussions of the build etc. but very rarely. And most of the people who discuss those topics are the regular people who log on to the forum daily and what not. But yea, "newbs" shouldn't feel ashamed and come right out with any question or concerns regarding DotA but they don't as we don't see them on the forums. They are probably either not posting them due to one being embarrassed, two maybe they are being lazy and just going with the flow in games, and third maybe they are trying to find a solution on their own which can include browsing through guides, you tube, etc.
All in all, I'm trying to make a case for them that maybe, just maybe after reading this post/conversation they will come out and ask questions without being hesitant. I want them to do this because it will help them get the better feel of the game and eventually make them better persons. Not only this will reduce the amount of games that are ruined on a daily basis, but it will also help them mature and hopefully help others (after being good) with how they got helped. After all, every player start somewhere as "newbs", which we already discussed that and there is nothing wrong with it.
If you know the lists of active clan/s then you minus well post it here as this discussion is for the betterment of the new players and their effects on the DotA community here at Ent anyways. You will be doing them a huge favor and they might try and not think they are all alone, and maybe try and go for the help they can get by visiting/chatting with people.
But yea my original discussion was and still is for behaving maturely by both parties (newb/pros) with patience which can be for the betterment of the enjoyment of the game itself for everyone!

Re: DotA - The Game We Love?!
Good read imo. Things I notice playing ent:
- a lot of noobs
- overall level is quite low
- therefore there are a lot of players who think they are good although they are not good (just better than the noobs)
- stacking is favourable since u are sure u dont play with 4 noobs and u can count on at least 1 of ur team
- making new acc to play vs stacks is favourable too, to have fun and to play vs "some skill"
- a lot of noobs don't realize they are noobs and fight the statement being noob so they dont learn from flames but stay noob (same goes for most of the "most of the players who think they are good")
Then, is it a problem we should be solving? I don't really think so. We play a really old game that has been improved into another game, dota 2. Mechanics, stats, matchmaking and so much more are better in that game. So I think we should just play for fun, do what you like to do (stack, flame noobs, ...) and if u don't like this game, move on. (Why u play this dota then? My laptop not fast enough for dota2)

This wasn't a complain/suggestion post to begin with, just throwing something out there for people to ponder and react accordingly and hopefully this can lead to betterment of the experience for everyone.
Well as a player and as an admin we can just sit back and hope that people will read this and maybe try to change their nonchalant attitudes to a point where they actually start concerning for what's remaining of the ol' Wc3 and to appreciate DotA more here at Ent.
