Name: aqf

Age: 30

Game moderator specialty (see below for choices): DotA

Brief introduction: Hi guys, I'm aqf and currently reside in the SF Bay Area (California). This year I started playing DotA after a very long time. I got hooked to ENT because of the easy to use website and fair/just staff. I really like how everyone here is trying to hold our gaming experience to a higher standard while rejecting the notion of becoming elite. I find myself helping out on the BRQ/Appeal forums for DotA because I really appreciate the effort put forth by ENT moderators to make sure people follow rules to make ENT a better community.

What are your current hours of playing time (approximate)? 2-3 games a day - ideally!

What is your current time zone? PST

Describe any relevant experience, both in moderating and in Warcraft III: I have helped out on several
BRQ's/Appeals and just started playing DotA this year after a long time. I have quite a few DotA games played here on ENT!

search.php?author_id=4246&sr=posts

Why do you want to become a game moderator? I want to help make ENT a better place for us to play DotA and I see how hard the DotA mods have to work, so I thought I could lend a hand.

What will you bring to the ENT/Warcraft III community? I can definitely help in BRQs for all offenses, including MH, and appeals for DotA. Also, if you guys need some technical help, I have extensive experience in programming for standalone apps and websites.

Closing Statement: I am continually trying to improve myself in my interests and I would like to contribute to ENT in anyway I can. I am easy to work with and I will take suggestions and integrate them quickly. Happy Holidays!

Personally I'd just like him to promise he can be as active as he has been, and consistently. If he can do that and keep going with the learning process and and doing brqs especially on fcD use ( I should have a pc in a couple days tho) I think the only question I have otherwise is who is smurf01 ( ent forum account)

In your opinion, what is the biggest flaw, as well as the biggest upside of ENT DotA. What could you personally do to help improve or maintain this?

Will you be more active in-game or on the forum as a staff member?

If a player was flaming you in-game saying you are awful at DotA what is your reaction?

You mentioned you have experience with maphack requests, would you be able to detect maphack without the use of a FCD?

On a scale of 1-10 how important is ELO to you?

Will you be consistent in your activity? Do you ever spend extended periods of time away from the game?

------

You seem to know how to communicate well in English, which is always nice to see in a staff member. You are older than most applicants, which could mean you are more mature than most, as well as having more gaming experience than most. (again, probably) Of course, only time will tell if you make a good moderator, but at this point you are proving yourself to be a promising applicant.

Good luck with your application!

@child I definitely plan to continue my current rate of activity for the foreseeable future and to be active enough to help reduce your workload for BRQ/Appeals.

I think you are referring to smurf0, which is my account also, and I made it to handle a few BRQs separately from my main that pertained to that bnet account. Since about 2 weeks, I decided to use only this acct.

The biggest upside is the professional/non-personal BRQ system where it is easy for everyone to report rule breakers. I think it's crucial to keep people in check - both gamers and mods. I have always felt decisions are fair and if not, either I can learn something new or communicate about it.

I think the biggest flaws could be abusing stats, MH, and dodging. These of course are a common WC3 Dota problem, so its nothing I can blame ENT for. One of my first BRQ caught this guy icarus for somehow getting losses recorded as wins: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=16390&p=77176#p77176 (I still don't know how he did it) I diligently search for people abusing stats and MH and I want to learn more about the dodging issue to help there.

Will you be more active in-game or on the forum as a staff member?

I plan to balance both in-game and the forums. Ideally, I would like to play 2-3 games in a day, but either way I will keep an eye on the forums.

If a player was flaming you in-game saying you are awful at DotA what is your reaction?

Honestly, I have learned to not let it get to me, and initially I was irritated when this happened. But, usually I warn them that I will ignore and try to get them focused on winning the game. I am definitely not a saint, but I am trying my best to avoid/deflect people's blame flame and use the ignore function more.

You mentioned you have experience with maphack requests, would you be able to detect maphack without the use of a FCD?

Yes, I have done so in several cases:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=17961&p=83889#p83889
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=21726&p=99507#p99507

On a scale of 1-10 how important is ELO to you?

ELO is meaningless to me (maybe 1?), but I do like to play against stacked teams (without friends) and win lots of ELO! I think DotA helps to build patience and playing strangers in a stacked game forces you to get better (just a theory). I have reached 1600+ ELO and I could go higher, but then I realized I just wanted to improve my game play and focusing on winning easy ELO games was not the path for me. Now, I find myself resetting my stats every 15 games so I can focus more on improving with various heroes instead of increasing a number.

Will you be consistent in your activity? Do you ever spend extended periods of time away from the game?

Since I came to ENT I haven't had an extended absence from DotA! I plan to keep my current level of activity for the foreseeable future and I would communicate any extended absence. However, even if I don't actually play a game, I should be able to still check BRQ/Appeals.

Haven't fully read your application but I went through all of your posts.

98% on appeals/requests, 1% on suggestions/dota related and the rest is some other serious stuffs.
Your post quality is pretty high and I like that you do not waste your time posting shit on the forum.

+1 from me.
Information, Rules, Guides and everything else you need to know about ENT is on the ENT Wiki.
